THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: 3D cards and Rendering time

I recently upgraded my video card from a Voodoo3 to a Geforce3 Ti 200. I was expecting rendering time in Bryce 5 to get much better but it pretty much stayed the same. Is the rendering speed only controlled by the cpu and ram? What would be the best way to speed things up? -thanks AMD Athlon TB 1 ghz, (soon to be 1.4), 256mb ddr, Windows 98 SE

Yes rendering time is based on CPU speed. RAM determines how big of a file you can work with. Video cards are just used for video display.

also if there isn't enough ram to use an app may swap to disk which can slow things down.

Your final bryce render will not go faster with a new and faster video-card. But the OpenGL mode will probably speed up. Bryce doesn't use the videocard in the final render.

That's right, Bryce only uses the CPU. The more RAM the better and the fastest CPU possible is the only thing you need. Mac G4's have exactly the kind of processor speed you need.

The best thing to really do is to buy Lightwave and watch your renders actually doing work insted of pixel by pixel turtle races.

Or you could buy 4 brand new G4 iMacs for the same price as Lightwave and set up your own render farm, hehe. Just a thought. ;-)

Hmmm, yeah guess it might be about time for that half gig of ram. I just updgraded the processor(and the mb, since I busted the old one in the process) and things are speeding up, I just thought it was a little funny that you couldn't take advantage of a 3D card's capabilities. Like in 3D Studio, you can select OpenGL mode or Direct3D or software. Oh well, the main reason I bought the thing was for games. Oh the render farm sounds pretty cool, but that would be a little much for a college dude like myself working at Hy-Vee grocery store :) Thanks
