Can anyone recommend a good book on Bryce 5.0?

SAMS3D ( ) posted Wed, 24 April 2002 at 4:22 PM

Not so much Bryce 5, but Bryce 4, the changes are not that great when you compare them....but this is a good book....RealWorld Bryce 4, by Susan Kitchens....Sharen

The manual............Ive been hangin around CIM to long.......LOL

I second what Sharon said. I got RealWorld Bryce 4 and never looked at the manual again. In fact, where is that thing anyway............:)

Me too. The manual is poorly organized and doesn't speak to creativity - just the technical stuff.

I saw a response to this question that said there would be a Bryce 5 book coming out very soon. I think it said that Amazon.com would be selling it, but don't quote me. I too would like to see a Bryce 5 book. I have a copy of Real World Bryce 4, but here again it was written for Bryce 4.

I own Bryce 4 F/X and Design by Coriolis. I recommend it for the Bryce beginner who seeks help in the creative side..kinda like myself :-) Great tutorials. Also, comes with a CD-ROM. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, Eugenius. Sounds just right for me, too! I'll check it out.

Real World Bryce is great. Other than the tree lab and some new render options, Kitchen's book is very much applicable. The light lab merely combines the lighting controlls in one place that were formerly scattered all over B4 so again, Kitchen's book has most of B5 covered. Bryce 4 FX by Coriolis is good too. I ran across another B4 book and can't find it now, wasn't all that great anyway. One of the real hot places to find stuff is simply by searching the net for bryce tutorials. There's been a huge following of this software for many years and you won't ever reach the end of the internet when it comes to Bryce web pages. I actually learned more by doing that than any other method. Even put up a couple of silly tuts myself at www.annsartgallery.com/eric.htm

The one and only Real World Bryce 4!!! It's a gold mine and I also think it is still available for Bryce 5.

Sipapu ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 7:16 AM

Didja mean "applicable to Bryce 5" Smaker? Not being picky; just don't want to mislead newbies.

Sipapu ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 7:33 AM

Thanks for that link to your tuts, Eric. I've got an abandoned DEM project that just might get revived now :-)

Smaker1 ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 9:20 AM

Sipapu: Yes!! (my english is far from perfect) I also have the Bryce F/X book but the Real World book is the better (even if you are a newbie) if you want to know every details of Bryce. Only one drawback, 1000 pages of info: too heavy to read it in the bed :-)!!.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 11:45 AM

I was actually somewhat disappointed with the Bryce F/X book when I actually got into it. Found it was actually rather thin on content. My opinion.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

I ordered RealWorldBryce4 from OpAmp ($37). Might have done better if I'd been patient but I want to snuggle up with it this weekend. Thanks all for the advice.

I got my hands on Susan Kitchens Real World book and the Bryce F/X book and I have to say that they go together well. Real World is by far more technical but an excellent book. I tried to "read" it but bashed by face in it when I fell asleep when I first got it. Now, I use it more for reference when I want to know something. I have followed some of the tutorials in it and when I did, it made a lot of things clear to me that had a heavy gaussian blur on it before. I treat the F/X book the same way. If something isn't clear int he RW book, I will look in the F/X book and vice versa. Bottom line, like Sharen said in the very first response, go with the Real World book. And, when you can't inderstand it there, post your question in this forum, hehe

Because I like to blow $%&# up.
