Subject: Should I get Flash 5 or wait for MX?

I posted this on the 2d-3d animation forum; but I got such great responses from my fellow Poser artists yesterday, I thought I'd cross-post here to get your opinions. My apologies if this is trying the adminstrator's patience. I'm planning to purchase Flash for the first time in the near future. I have the opportunity to get Flash 5 with an educational discount for $99.00. The college store says they will be getting the new release 'in a couple of weeks' and it'll cost 'A hundred something.' Alas, I may be losing my educational discount since my position at the institution is being outsourced (I'll still be working there, but for a different company.) So I am juggling with a time factor here. I don't know whether to grab Flash 5 now or wait and risk having to pay full price for MX ($500!) Can anybody tell me what the new features are, and whether they would be signifigant to someone who is learning Flash for the first time? I'm a slow learner, too-- I've been using Pshop 5.0 for a year and a half and am still learning new things about it! (And I don't want to EVEN talk about trying to learn Poser!)

If you would like to import movies you should absolutly wait mx imports the whole thing and the file gets realy small and there seams to be alot more done actionscript so you may get around longer without actualy scripting yourself, other then that I don't realy know so much just got mx. Still you can do amasaing stuff with just flash 5 and you should be ablee to upgrade that when you feel the need. Magnus

Well, upgrading from Flash5 to MX is a lot cheaper than buying the full package. Check out Macromedia's upgrade prices. So buying that 5 package now may well be your best bet. :] FishNose

You know all this cross posting gets really confusing, I've replied to this thread in the animation forum where you said you were going....

Very immportant feature in MX to me is that you can generate Emptymovieclip and import .jpg pix into which allows you to create brand new slideshows that was not possible with Flash5 :o) PhEn.
