I've been fooling around with Bryce for 6 months or more, but just today did I figure out network rendering. Wow. I was absolutely amazed. cyber-organic said the following in a message. I took a test scene that rendered in 14 minutes on a P3 1Ghz, and rendered it using 4 machines ranging from 800Mhz to 1Ghz. Render time: 3.5 minutes!! I didn't realize that it was going to be able to fully utilize 100% of each PC's processing power. I thought it might be able to increase my render times 10-20-30% The 4 machines I have access to give me a 3.6Ghz rendering engine. That's pretty sweet. It sure beats the heck out of 1Ghz!! I think this answers your question.

ok... now comes a question (from a Bryce newbie) about this network rendering thingie. I have a second computer, K700 that I can use as a network renderer. I create a scene in Bryce. 1) Now how do I tell the networked computer to start the render ? or does Bryce lightning do this for me ? 2) Does Bryce still have to be running on the original computer or can I shut down Bryce and do other stuff. ? (while second computer chomps) 3) Once the render is done, can it be saved automaticly ? 4) and lastly, how will I know it is done rendering with out having a second monitor hooked up ? thanks and regards, bob
The puter you have your Bryce scene open on will act as the server, the other puters on the newtwork just launch Lightning, on your main machine "server" you will type in all the IP adresses of the other machines in the network rendering window. My suggestion is, take the slowest machine that you have, luanch the bryce file on it and then let your faster machines do the network rendering, use the "use host to render" function as well. what this does is, the slow machine sends out the packets of info to render to the other machines, and if the fast ones are chomping away at a tile to render, the slow "server" puter will grab a tile to render instead of waiting around for the others to finish up.
Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!
Oh and By the way, if you have a broadband connection to the net, you can render a file using someone else's puter, as long as you have that puters IP address. During some testing this worked great!! And it doesn't matter what Platform you're on, as long as Bryce Lightning is running. We tested between my Macs, a PC and a SGI from Corel over the web all at once so I know it works:-) Just a matter of setting it all up and such. Hope that helps some.

The message I send was a copy of another message by someone else. I mentioned who orriginally said it, but for some dark reason it doesn't seem to be in the message. If the writer of the message feels offended by me posting his text then he should put a message up here telling he is the actual writer of the text. I don't remember his name anymore.

Exactly what size of computer or computer(s) and processing power should I get for them? Cuz I can get like a dozen older computers but would it make it render any faster? Cuz right now I have a ahtlon 2100 and 512 ram. And too be honest.. Its not that fast.
