Subject: Ebot messages

BAM ( ) posted Mon, 31 January 2000 at 7:55 AM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 1:04 PM

I keep getting Ebot messages sent to me about messages posted to Renderosity. I understand that if I leave the checkbox "Email me when someone replies" checked then when someone replies to my message I get email sent to me. However, I am getting Ebot messages about responses to threads I have not participated in either by reading or response. Is there a bug out there?

That's a strange one. You should only be getting them for messages you created or replied to.

Actually, I get lots of Ebot messages for threads where I really did a post, but when I check it, the promised reply is not there. I understand that it could sometimes happen that someone replies, and then deletes it (so that it looks unchanged whenever I visit it later). But it makes me suspicious that this never happened to me until about two weeks ago, but within the last two weeks about half (!) of my Ebot messages are referring to non-existing replies.

BAM, There is also the option of 'subscribing' to a forum, so it emails you whenever someone posts a message (not a reply) to that forum. You have that currently turned on for the main Poser forum. MartinC, If you come back to a message you have previously read to check the new reply, it is likely your browser has cached the page prior to the reply. Try hitting reload to see if the new reply shows up.

As you might remember, I hit "reload" very often... :-) Seriously - I thought about this (of course) and I tried it every time, but to no avail. Even if I come back days later, the thread is unchanged - so it is either that I really recieve ghost messages by Ebot, or it is a conspiracy of people that started to permanently reply/delete in mid january...

I've gone in and changed things. If what you say is true about that selection in my profile and I should have received email each time a NEW thread was started then I think there is a problem with that feature because I don't think I got an email each time a new thread was started. Anyway, thanks for the help

If it works the same way as the "someone has replied" message, you will only get one announcement until you visit the thread. For example, if three people reply to one of my threads, I only get one message for the first one. If I visit it, I'll get another one for the next member who replies afterwards. I guess that the same mechanism works with the forum feature. OK, fur... another "give them an inch"... request... :-) I think this forum feature is not very useful (is anyone using it??), but a cool feature would be to move it to individual threads! I often read something interesting, and it would be great to get notified if someone replies there. The only way so far would be to post a reply ("Sorry folks, I don't have anything to say here, but I just want to be on the mailing list...") - I'm NOT doing that... But a little button "notify me if someone replies here" would be wonderful...

i'll have to look over the ebot stuff when i get some free time. your "notify me" request has been noted and added to my todo list! fur
