See that link right up there that says Poser Forum FAQ-- click on that and the VERY 1st question is where does everything go. Don't worry it will come easy in time if you can stay sane right now. LOL If you really have street legal Vickie and Michael, they come in .exes so there's no problem there. Check to see if the zips [if your stuff is zipped, most is] have paths defined. Most times they are the right paths. If you're on a MAC, wait for a Mac owner to show up cause I just do PC. Emily who put everything away wrong at least twice but it was a good learning experience cause I can now put stuff away in my sleep.

whoah........ heheh......... check on the runtime/geometry folder for the objs....... and runtime/library/character for the actual link within poser. The ussual DAZ model ussually comes in .exe, (just like query said)and insert itself in the character/Zygote or character/DAZ. THe other models however comes with no .exe files....... but still arranged to insert themself to your poser directory :)

some of the freebies here come in zip's without the folders being set up, most have readme files that explain where it all goes but I've found 1 or 2 that don't even have that, don't let that put you off tho, there's a lot of very talented people around who do a first class job of putting together freebies, I'm constantly amazed at the quality of the freebies a lot of which could easily be sold instead

ZIps usually have the paths defined if you have paid for them. Free stuff however, and sometimes even the paid for kind gets a few things wrong-- it's best to know where everything goes. QUick and dirty: cr2 in Runtime/libraries/character-- in a folder with a rsr or png for thumbnail. obj's usually in geometry but some progs required they be in the cr2 folder, this doesn't happen often but sometimes-- some of Kaz hair is a good example of this. [some obj are just that objects and have to be imported into Poser and saved as props, check the read me] Assume Runtime/libraries for everything but Geometry: cm2-- camera file; pp2--prop; hr2--hair; lt2--light,not lights; pz2 [the one you will have a million of] Pose file, it can be anything from a pose to a MAT to a MOR file. And I'm not even going into the ability to move most of these files around-- changing the tag names-- if you have to. NEVER move the geometry file, not even out of it's folder. Everything needs to be in a folder or it doesn't register [sometimes that's wrong but in general it's a good idea] Textures can go anywhere, don't have .bbb or whatever. Are generally in Runtime but not in libraries, but it's a good idea to have them in folders so you can find them if you need to. Confused, yet?? LOL, we all went through this, me just three months ago. I haven't even gone into the fact that some hair goes in Characters, and some in Props, some even goes in the Hair file. Emily

Oh, one more thing-- no sub-folders. You can have a folder-- Daz People in the Character file [it's a folder really] but you can't have a Mike folder in the Daz people folder in the Character folder-- it won't show up in the program. Only exception to this is textures, you can do whatever you like in textures. Emily

I tried to set up sub folders once, not going to do it again, poser sulked and wouldn't play till I put everything back where it started, and the most important thing, never never delete the file Poser.rsr, it will kill poser completely. Just remember to have fun with poser and let us all see what you come up with please. Rob

By the way, you can have sub folders in Poses... but all the poses (even the ones in the sub folders) will show up in the main folder when you're playing with Poser :) Just noticed that the other day...

if you have the originals just use the installers - the originals all have them

MIght not have gotten the manual. If it was passed on to them by someone as disorganised as me. I had all of Poser-- no Millenium, and thank god CL still had my serial number cause I didn't. But no manual. Oh, I found it a month later and then lost it again. 4 dogs, 2 of them puppies, it's that kind of a house. Almost had my Intuos stylus eaten yesterday. Emily
