Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
I can see me walking around the plane now, with the flight instructor, as he says: "This is a fine four engine plane, except one of the engines was never installed, probaly never will be, and one of the other engines only runs about half the time. The instrument panel is filled with nice gauges that show problems you can't correct, because the contols for that item was never connected, or causes the plane to explode if you try and use them. Once you take off, if you want to retract the landing gear you have crawl out and let the air out of the tires, because they don't fit in the wheel-wells if they are inflated, and of course you have to pump them back up again, before you land." But then he finishes it up with: "But of course this plane will take you to places where no othre plane will go, so you might find it worth-while to learn to work around the problems" Think about it!
People! Meta is no longer interested in developing the product or listening to our incessant whining. However, LarryW, our only hope now, DOES read this forum occasionally. If I were he, I'm not sure the above comments about my "baby" would really serve to encourage me to keep working (for free) on further patches. ... "Hey lady! You've got the dumbest, ugliest kid I've ever seen... and by the way, could you do me a really big favor?" And hell, if my motorcycle was an airplane I wouldn't fly it -- but that don't mean it ain't still a fun ride.
I don't think the comment was really meant that way. But Larry and the guys at Ghost Effects have really gone above and beyond the call of duty. Hell, I would rather THEY have all the rights to Poser, at least THEY listen and try to fix things. Meta has never really listened to us, it was either Steve Cooper or Larry. Cheers guys Nick
I have experienced very few problems with Poser4. I have had it lock up. I have had it twist figures into physiologically impossible contortions. I have also had to land an A-6 without the right landing gear locked. Landing the A-6 was a bit worse. At least with Poser4 I have not soiled my flightsuit ... yet. Seriously, though I have not had Poser4 for very long, I just have not had the problems I have heard many people talk about ... yet.
Hey now...seriously...I cannot think of a single major screwup with the software that I could not trace to either: 1)having downloaded and tried to use something waaay too big for my system or, 2)having done something inadvertantly dumb.... Granted, I probably do not "push the envelope" near as much as some people...but just because you can't do an Eimelmann turn in a 777 doesnt mean it's a bad plane.... Scarab <-(granted I did soil myself a little bit the first time I caught a "C exception".....
I've had more "crashes" with PhotoShop than I have with Poser 4 (usually memory conflicts -- error 11). Having said that, everything in PhotoShop "works as advertised" which is something I can't say is true of Poser 4. Would I fly in it? Yes! Could I count on getting to the advertised destination? Probably not, but isn't getting there at least half of the fun?
Like Traveler, I don't seem to get as many of the annoying problems as some. Oh for sure, I've had figures doing the wild-pretzel thing, a couple of lockups, and the dreaded C-exception but not on any regular basis. So, if P4 were an airplane - yes, I'd fly it. But I'd be on the lookout for a nice shiney new airplane as well :) Paul
As a Mac user I'm used to being orphaned by 3D software companies. You know anyone else aside from me still using Strata Studio Pro, hmmmm? But I do because it fills my needs and fits well with the way I work. Same with Poser. When 4 came out I could not believe how much better things had become, P-Dork notwithstanding. The weasels at MC can, with all due respect, bite me! I will hope and pray the Poser finds a good home and that Larry's outstanding work will continue to be recognised. On the other hand if nothing ever happens, I'll continue to use Poser 4 (and SSP) until my OS doesnt see it any more. Sure maybe I'll switch some day but not until I'm convinced that the new software provides all the functionality of the "orphaned" software (within reason of course). jus'my 2 sense. jje

If Poser was an airplane, would you fly it?
