Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
As far as we are concerned you can use any of our freebies for commercial use, you do not have to mention our names, just don't sell our free models to anyone please or claim them as your own. What I do when I get a free model, I put a catagory always in my poser file with the person's name in the catagory, that way I always know who's model I am using. Even my own. Sharen
I keep my .zips and .sits filed by category, but add the maker's name at the time of download so that it becomes part of the file. Some things such as the "jousting arena" are unique, but it seems like everybody and their cousin has created files named "vase01", "book01", and "candle01". Keeping items files by category also helps, because two years later are you going to remember whether "Tiffany.zip" was a skin texture, a morph, a hairstyle, a lamp, or even an entire character? Carolly
I still have all the zip files. I could stop being lazy, get off me r's and wite me a txt file list of freebies.. that'd keep me entertained for like.. lifeL.. I'm not liable to sell any models to anyone.. nobody's stoopid enough to buy anything from meL.. anyweay.. I believe in credit where credit's due. and whilst poser allows me to find an outlet for my artistic tendencies with relative ease I fully appreciate that it's you guys (and gals) that do the real hard work. I know. I tried a bit of mesh work. haha. that was fun. /;) keep up the good work, it's people like you that allow people like me to get things inside.. um.. out. oh. I think that made sense :) thanks :D Dolph.
Hauksdottir >> hey there :).. I do actually keep all my zips in category for future reference.. although I'm gonna have to go through them all again sometime soon.. when I created the directories to store my DL's I thought that all I would need would be models, textures, props and odds n sods (actual folder nameL)... very wrong. however your idea is excellant.. especially if I have a folder inside each folder for each of my fave contributors :)
You can safely rename CR2, PP2, HR2, PZ2 etc. files, as long as you change the .RSR (or .PNG for ProPack) to match, so you can add the creator's name to the file in you libraries as an instant cross check. Only OBJ files cannot be changed at all (unless you edit the .CR2 or whatever to match); if you change a texture name you will have to tell Poser which file to use (repeatedly if there are several materials).

Quick question. I have, since my recent(ish) installation of poser 4+pro, become quite addicted to downloading freebiesL.. nothing unusual right?.. it's free, it's good and it's high quality a lot of the time. thing is.. during installation of said freebies (models props and suchlike) I tend to delete the readmes to avoid over buffing my HDD with TXT files..... thus I have no idea which person did what and who I downloaded it from... I am, however, fully aware that a lot of people don't want their free contributions to be used for commercial purposes.. and rightfully so seeing as they are the one's who put the hard graft into it... anyway.. cut a long story short... Am I able to post the pictures I've made with these models on renderosity?.. does that count as commercial distribution? hope you'll excuse my ignorance on the subject but I'd just like to be sure before I go offending anyone unduly. Thanks heaps Dolphy.. :D
