Subject: Theft of Work

Dendras ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 7:16 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 3:58 PM

Earlier today a user here had posted one of my commercial items with slight modifications to freestuff, claiming credit for the creation of what was essentialy my work with minor modification. I won't mention their name because this issue is now in the hands of the admin.

This is the sort of thing all artists dread. I immediately called Tammy Choate and explained the problem, and within less than five minutes the item had been removed and the user contacted.

This same user has also been banned from Thralldom.Org, and I have spoken to the head of his hosting company in Germany regarding removal of his website for copyright infringement. My copyright attorney will also be contacting his ISP.

Tammy, Jennifer, I'm posting this to express my warmest and most sincere thanks for your lightning-fast response to this situation. It was truly professional in every regard.

Gratefully,

Dendras

Is this the same person as posted in darkjeanette's thread?

Dendras ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 9:37 PM

No, it's not. I got an IM from Questor asking which file I was referring to so he could delete it. (Thank you, Questor!) Also, between now and the time I started this thread I found yet another prop this user had stolen and made into one of his own; this is in freestuff and is called "mask", and the file is titled "mask.zip". The user is curunir. The file that was deleted today was "examination table". Curunir has so far declined to respond to emails requesting that he delete these items from his site.

Thanks for letting us know who it was. I was just going to ask. Fortunately, I didn't download "his" prop.

I have a post going in the Poser forum with the same title as this thread, and which includes images of Curunir's "work". It seems I'm not the only artist whose work this user is claiming as his own. I also appreciate the fact that we can all stick together at times like these; I think that's really what makes a community.

We are aware of this situation at the 3DCommune and are keeping our eyes open. Thanks Tom (Hawkfyr) 3DCommune Site Administrator

My thanks to Hawkfyr and to everyone else who helped out and reacted so quickly.... that's what I was referring to in the post 6. I spoke with the head of his hosting company last night. Except for the index page, all files have been removed from Curunir's site. He's been banned from Thralldom.Org as well.

I think it is sooo important to stick together on things like this. I'm pretty new to 3D art and felt absolutely thrilled when a viewer/commentor said they were going to use one of my pics for a wallpaper. On the flip side I saw another persons new entry of their own art that had a flavour of mine and I felt akin to raw panic! That was as close as I want to come to the real feeling of being stolen from :(

We're keeping an eye out at Rotica, too. So far, haven't seen anything from this person there. Although we chased off Shin_Gouki (see the other thread here regarding stolen artwork) and now he's posting here and at Commune. Funny thing is, even though the guy did a lousy job of covering up the real signatures (with boxes or bad cropping) he still had the nerve to insist the work was his own. ::sigh::

I know Diane...and those"this is one of my best works" remarks were just plain sad. I can for the life of me understand what would drive one to do that. it's really quite sad IMHO We pitched him over at the Commune also. Tom
