Subject: Testing out the new cyc prop from DAZ

I created a new texture for it last night and loaded it in, only to find that the curve in the cyc works against non-organic structures, like stairs and such. I suppose it would be possible to reset the camera to hide the curve a little bit. The biggest challenge is in resetting the lights to match, since, after a certain point, lights on the omni setting disappear behind the prop, making backlighting a little more difficult. Still, pretty impressive stuff. And, like Nerd's backdrop, something so obvious it's surprising no one did this before.

Yeah, it does look pretty good. I can see the curve a bit, but it's a minor thing. That backdrop at least doesn't make the figures look out of place. That's been my gripe with these backdrop things: you drop a realistic photo on one and suddenly your people look extremely out of place. Good job on this one, though.

Any chance someone with both the Daz and Nerd products could compare/contrast the two? Seem so similar...

Tks!

what you could do with the stairs is maybe create the backdrop and paste it on the cyc and then add the stairs as small props afterward??? this would get rid of the curve wouldnt it?

Actually I was thinking that a judicious combination of the backdrop and some appropriate propping (like step units) would really make this thing shine. The difference between this and the backdrop like Nerd's (or, I think, Sydd's?) is that the backpiece, being curved, actually enhances the realism a bit, following the way the eye actually sees things. But it might be interesting to combine the two and see what happens: they already do that to a degree with the additional planes in this, so it's not unlikely that they'd work together like a multiplane animation camera.

Oh cool...I was wondering about re-mapping the props...there seems like so many possibilities...

I have tried the Daz cyc all the afternoon:the beach one and the forest one .I like better than the Nerd one .The lighting is excellent. No template or i didn't seen it!

How large an image do you need for the cyc? Couldn't exactly tell from the Daz site. I would get very very tired of that one beach and that one forest-- in about an afternoon, actually. I'm leery of how huge a picture I would have to use to look good. I have the whole Corel library but they have to be shrunk nearly in half to get any kind of quality. Usually a 1000 wide is a high as I can go and that's with a lot of prep. Aurora might produce better-- that plugin in the MP. But it's restricted to water and sky. Emily
