The shop at www.3dlinks.com is selling lightwave 7.5 for $1250 (not academic, free shipping.) Been shopping around, and this seems almost too cheap to be true. Anyone bought anything from them before? Opinions? TIA!

What's Newtek's current price? I know it's low... I bought the 6.5 bundle from Newtek a month ago for $1,000 Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

lists at newtek for $1595, at dvdirect.com for $1497... Now dvdirect.com has competitive upgrade for $1250 (mentioned dvdirect.com because I've used them in the past)...

I haven't dealt with 3dlinks, but Safe Harbor is selling LW 7 for $1250 (list is $1595, the 6.0 to 7.5 upgrade is $395), so it's most likely a pretty standard discount price. Now's a great time to get into Lightwave! Regards Lemurtek

Amazing! or wait a few months until it's shareware :) Debating between LW and C4D+dynamics plug-in. with LW at $1500, C4D+dynamics a couple of hundred more. Worth it (to me, anyway) to avoid the dongle. Now not so sure.... John

Lightwave is much better than c4d. Ron

I got Lightwave 6.5, all legit, full version for $500, from someone who was trying to sell it on eBay (he had two copies he bought for his church (for animatiion presentations) Talk about a deal, eh? Ben

Been palying with the demos, and both seem pretty impressive. Very different user interfaces, and seems C4D a bit easier to get used to. Both produce images (in the galleries here) that are VERY realistic. LW is more common, but C4D is growing fast (I have to wonder if the recent price drops on LW were related to C4D's growing popularity.) Of course, "Poser 5" will put them both out of business. ;) (Don't wanna start a debate, they've been compared a lot here in the forums already.)

Academic version 7.5 of Lightwave (full version, not chopped or crippled) now available at JourneyEd (http://www.journeyed.com) for $350US.

Yes, but you can't upgrade the academic version unless you buy a license for the full version first, and you aren't supposed to use it commercially until you buy the license for the full version. Think it's around $300 more for the license. And you're right it's not crippled in any way, except for upgrading. I don't know if I would go that route again. Marque
