Who the hell is this "dreamkey2" that took stuff from my web site and posted it in Freestuff???????? http://www.imdanet.com/~kai/Proof/dreamkey1.jpg http://www.imdanet.com/~kai/Proof/dreamkey2.jpg http://www.imdanet.com/~kai/Proof/dreamkey3.jpg Whoever the hell you are, you do *not* have permission to post stuff from my web site in Freestuff, much less claim it as your own!!!

I saw something mentioned in a previous thread about this, and well, I'm shocked someone would do this given the recent hoo-rah about something similar. There's no excuse for that sort of thing (provided it's all written out nice and neat in some sort of readme or whatever, which I'm guessing it is). I would also imagine that you have notified the admins of this problem....

I downloaded the vadar, and there was a Thumbs.db file in hte zip, I never installed vadar, and after reading in team contact that this was posted unjustifiably, i deleted it and thats when I found out the Thumbs.db was there, i got a warning about deleteing a system file but I did any way...any one know what that is?

No idea what a thumbs.db is. The Admins/Mods have been notified about my stuff being posted in Freestuff. I made a policy long ago that my stuff wouldn't be posted in Freestuff, as it's all free on my web site anyways. This individual never contacted me or anything, and to put their name on it... That just plain ol pisses me off. If you already DL'd any of these items from Freestuff, use them if you wish, but just make sure the right person is credited. That's all I ask.

Its already deleted from my hard drive...but I am on my way to your site #:^)

You know when I saw that stuff I thought I'd seen it before but wasn't sure. Now that I know it's yours I'll go back to my post and add the credit to you for the Vader.

WarriorDL ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 1:18 AM

odeathoflife, that's what tipped off my pal that notified me. bigdog1, thanks :o)

bigdog1 ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 1:21 AM

BTW, if that person is hoping to get credit for your work they aren't too terribly bright about it. I just went back and rechecked the readme and it's the one you wrote so if someone dl's the Vader at least, the readme hasn't been changed.

WarriorDL ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 1:31 AM

The URL I tested from the DL's links directly to my site. It's the fact that someone put my items in Freestuff and listed their name in Freestuff as "by" that person.

bigdog1 ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 1:37 AM

It sucks that someone would do that but I'm glad that you found out about it even if it was inadvertantly. Also there was no "thumbs.db" file in the zip I have. I searched my HD and found two files with that name but neither were associated with your stuff.

scifiguy ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 2:24 AM

Thumbs.db is a cache created by Windows XP (any NT OS maybe?) as part of Windows Explorer. When WinExplorer shows you a folder in "thumbnails" mode (really, anytime it shows you pictures without you actually opening the file), it creates a .db file in that folder for the thumbnails it creates. Next time you browse the folder, it pulls the images from there first so it can open and display the folder faster. Other programs do something similar (for example, Paint Shop Pro) when you browse image folders with them. You can freely delete these files, but Windows will always complain that they are system files.

Someone has noodles in lieu of brains if they think they can just take stuff or, worse, credit for stuff which has been created by the membership. We all check each other's sites... there are no offshore havens for smugglers on the Internet. I'm sorry this happened to you. Carolly

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 5:09 AM

I was a bit shocked.. every link I tested went straight back to Warriors site... noodles for brains? no.. just no brains at all Kai

archonix ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 5:41 AM

I like noodles... think he'll let me open up his skull?

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 5:57 AM

I just don't get it....what is up with these people? I'd hate to work with this person, or worse yet have them live next to me. Don't they have ANY clue? Sheeeesh! Marque

Dave ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 7:55 AM

I guess some of us were lucky that he was just a Star Wars fan and not Star Trek too. Otherwise one of my things would've ended up in FreeStuff too that is on your site. Guy's got a lot of kahunas to pull something this lame.

WarriorDL ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 10:53 AM

Dave, agreed. Like your Harry Kim figure, I host a number of items for others as well, with a few of them exclusive to my site (B-5's Garibaldi for one). I've been notified that the items were removed. I want to thank Kai again for the heads up on this (Kaibach).

Dendras ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 10:54 AM

This sounds like Deja Vu. This happened to ne in exactly the same way last week, and I'm sorry WarriorDL or anyone else had to repeat my experiences. I'd find out who they are and where their site is located, etc. The M.O. sounds exactly like that of the user who ripped me off.

Dave ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 11:05 AM

I'm sure the poor guy's gotten tons of emails after this posting about this subject too ;)

Nance ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 11:08 AM

This is such an egregious violatioan of local custom, with no attempt at a cover-up, that one can only conclude this guy was totally clueless that what he was doing was improper. If I were Warrior, I'd be equally outraged, but I think what we have here is more likely just an uninformed fan rather than a thief. But what the heck, let's lynch the stranger anyway -- just for the practice.

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 11:11 AM

anyone got a poser gibbet? ;)

Dave ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2002 at 11:16 AM

All I did was email him and let him know very diplomatically that what he did wasnt how we do things around here. Havent heard back from him yet. And I probably wont either.
