Great work! Guess the duel will be between the boat and the dragon! May I make a suggestion? Could you take the camera lower and a bit more closer to the boat? That way the effort that you have put in will be more detailed and more visible! Also a lower perspective would make it more imposing thus enhance the drama of the scene! A dragon's head like wood carving at the stern( hope I got the naval terminology right! :-P)might reinforce the duel between the boat and the seadragon!
Well, just for your info, the illustration is Tim Hidebrandt's (In case you didn't already know that is!)! May I congratulate you on a terrific modeling job done!! But must admit you'll have your work cut out for you!!! :-P. Still feel you'll be able to add a twist, by haveing a dragon like head to the boat (where you have a sphere). More so if you did it with symm. Lat.s to give it the wooden look. Guess you are doing the dragon in metaballs! It really will be an achievement if you achieve a lighting any where near the lighting in the illustration! :-P I think this is going to be a terrific entry for the challenge!
Coool! Tres Coool!!! This is shaping up to be a terrific image! I wouldn't bother too much about size if I were you (unless RAM is a problem), 'cos my images quickly move to over 300-400 MB with ease! That's how Bryce works! C'est la vie I suppose! :( But don't sacrifice size for the beauty which is inherent to the image you are doing!!! Have a suggestion, how about doing the terrain on which the toadstools are in metaballs? That way you might get a real interesting terrain and something closer to original!
The sail is NEAT!!! Very Neat!!! Metaballs? Am still feeling sad that we wont be able to see this boat in greater details in the image! :-( Its a marvellous model! Do let me know in case there's any awy I can help you with the metaball dragon. Posted a few tips on my post on Metaball character. Think the rope can be made a little thinner! It tends to detract and its too thick to have that kind of curvature when swinging! And the second flag looks even more impressive! Great job!!!
Well the sail and yardarm are a single terrain. The 2 curved rigging are metablls constrained to a path (about 120) then unlinked them and deleted the path. Unfortunately that was the smallest I could get the without them seperating. I'll see if I can improve it if I have time. As for close shots maybe I'll just do some to post in the gallery but it's not a model for extreme closups because there are imperfections. Thanks for the comments, glad you like it. And if I haven't said it before enough I LOVE your dragon. :) I'll be sure to keep you in mind if I run into trouble.
Thanks! I'm really impressed with what metaballs can do. BTW the dragon is completely metablls with the exception of the eyes which consist of 4 spheres (1 glass and 1 color for each eye. I think I fixed the foam to where I'm satisfied with it. Now it's to put everything in. Test render with the dragon in the scene was going to take over 5 hours, must be a few semi-transparent overlaps along with the 2 light sources and the bump maps. I'm curious how long the whole thing will take.
