Subject: Am I the only who does this stupid thing?

starmkr ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 10:35 AM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 9:56 AM

It seem like when I pick a hair and change my mind after I have applied it to the Model...I go to delete figure and hair is selected ..hoping to delete the hair and I end up destroying my Model that I have worked on for hours....I know I should have saved it...I wish poser had the right click feature of Windows or a drop down menu that says...this is what we are dumping ...What sucks is there is no undelete buttons once you done it...you can't get it back..maybe Poser 5

I might help if you look at the figue and item indcator at the bottem left of the viewing window. If it shows figure and head you know that when you delete your work will go bye bye, if it shows figure and the name of the hair it is safe. It took me forever to figure that out. and all it took was one quick glance. I felt to stupid when I figured that out. :)

No, you're not. God, I hate that.

pendarian ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 10:48 AM

I have done that a time or two myself. Now I'm really careful that when I go to delete hair and it's not a figure but listed under props, I make sure that I do delete object instead. If you have saved the original file that you are working in you can always just re open it. I have learned to save my files in various forms. One as pz3, then the figure in the figure library and again in the face library. That way if I want to use them for more then one render, it's already saved somewhere. The face library is a good thing, if I use a pose that someone has saved the morphs with it and it messes up my character, all I have to do is reapply the face and my character is back :) But yes, it does happen to other people and I too hope there is something like the undo button in Poser 5. Yeah, I do that stupid thing all the time. Not usually on important stuff...usually it's when I'm playing with things to set up a new scene. I don't want to save it, because I'm not sure I really want to do the scene that way...but I still spend 20 minutes getting the pose and everything right...then I go to delete one of the props, and accidentally delete the main character. Of course, saving into a temporary file would be good, but then I get a ton of temporary files lying around that I don't remember what they are. Sometimes you can't win for losing :-)

Strangechilde ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 11:20 AM

You can always close the file without saving, and then reopen it. At least you'll get as much of your work back as you had done at the point of the last save.

I do it so often I am kinda ashamed to admit it.

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 12:35 PM

Can't you just double click on a new hair, and it'll replace the other one? (if it is a hair, and not a prop or character) At least on windows, it works that way (or am I just special ;) My biggest mistake is applying a hair while the clothes are selected. Then, after applying a pose, your hair goes crazy. eric

i can't recal all the dumb stuff i still do and deleting the wrong figure is still in my top 5

Jim Burton ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 2:25 PM

Ha! If I only had a dime for every time I've done that... Along with conforming the figure to the clothing, or applying a pose to the clothing, not the figure!

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 3:08 PM

Geeze, you guys, I thought I was the only one who still did dumb stuff like that. :) Current doozy: spending almost 6 hours setting up a scene, forgetting to save it and then having the test render lock up. ARGH! KateTheDunce

miryam ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 3:19 PM

Ditto! I do it at least once a day! pose the clothing instead of the figure, adding the hair prop when a cloting item is selected. You name it, I did it!! LOL!!

All the time! And I agree Pendy, P5 will hopefully have an undo option that will cover that.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

Golly, I must be a genius. It's been TWO days since I've done that! Just kidding, but I learned to keep half an eye on the text under the viewing window, and to save under 3 names in rotation, and to always save if the cat walks into the room... and still sometimes click the wrong button at the wrong time. It happens. :🤷: Just try to make recovery as painless as possible. I like that idea of saving into the faces library, too. Will have to try that. :) Carolly

bloodsong ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 4:23 PM

heyas; no, but you're the only one who tells people about the stupid stuff you do. ;) naw, i'm just kidding. here's one: i spent... not too long, actually, 10-15 minutes on the daz cupcake prop, with a magnet, making all these morphs that i used to have for it before my hard drive died.... and JUST before i saved it back to the library, i said, 'ah, i'll just delete this magnet before i do.' as you can imagine, i deleted my whole smeggin cupcake, and i had to do all the morphs all over again!!!!! aaaaaaaaargh! poser DOES ask you if you're SURE. which everybody ignores. but, when it does, try to at least note if it is asking you if you want to delete the current OBJECT or the current FIGURE. it does tell you the difference right there. (of course, if you're working with several props/magnets/objects, you can still be fooled.)

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 5:19 PM

It's almost as bad as getting everything Just Right, and forgetting that you haven't saved recently ... and then you hit Render, and Poser locks or crashes, and you lose all the 'just so perfect' changes you just finished. ARGH!

FishNose ( ) posted Thu, 09 May 2002 at 5:29 PM

Oh yeah, deleting the wrong thing, regularly. And renders crashing without a save, regularly. And having the wrong figure chosen when you apply a pose, and boingggg....... And adding magnets to the wrong thing and wondering where they went, etc etc... :] FishNose

Oh yeah. Don't I know that one. Yesterday I hid poser while working in photoshop. When i finished I went to have dinner, came back and just shut down the computer. It was at that moment I remembered my unsaved poser model hidden behind the scenes. (I have problems with start up if i use the menu shut down, so I use the complete, immediate version)
