Any body that knows how Parisian (French) windows look like? Or any body that have any picture? Couldn't find it on the net :.( ... lol... Anyway I found this window, when I walked around in the streets. Don't know the lock mechanism yet, so look in the free stuff in a couple of days.

Great windows Lex Guitta is french from origin. Been there dozens of times on holiday but never watched the windows ;) regards Myske

Je suis francais. Anyway... these windows could easily pass for french. Maybe I would remove the vertical bar in the middle. When I used to live there, I had windows like these, except for the vertical bar. You can also add shutters on the outside of the window. I found this is a big difference between windows in France and in the US (big shutters on the outside for french windows and only blinds inside for US windows).

agiel: French? poor you ;) Ok, no vertical bar. And what on earth do the shutters look like? Never think I have seen that before..

I think there are a couple in the free stuff. Mike made them.

OK Alekssander... so it's time for your first french lesson :) The french word for what you call 'doors' is: volets Your model is very good but : - we don't open the window outside the house, but inside the room - the 'volets' in your picture ... are good but.. the 'gonds' are not at a good place ... (sorry I don't know the english word for 'gonds') may be this link can help you to understand what my poor english can not explain.. http://www.torbel.ch/cgi-bin/db2www.exe/ptorfr.d2w/result?gamme=001&value1=030&value2=101&value3=128/4 ;) Patrick

Salut tout le monde (hello everybody !) :-) Well, I agree what Laurent (Agiel) said. Where I live, Marseille, there is a vertical bar, but for the kind of windows you builded, there are only one horizontal bar, instead of the three you made. For more precisions, in buildings, windows are trully taller than large (my windows are approximatively 3,5 meters height for 1,2 large). In house, they are approximatively 1,5 m. X 0,8 m. Pmermino is right : we, french, are opening our windows inside the room. And usually, we have, for building windows, 4 'gonds' (I don't hae the word too) and for house windows, 3. Alekssender, I like your question about 'doors' in front of our windows !!! Yes we are strange people... LoL !!!

"gonds" means "Hinges"

Alekssander ( ) posted Fri, 10 May 2002 at 8:44 AM

Gebe: More French? uuuuuuuuaaaaaahhhhhh ;) It would be easier with a picture...... :) pmermino I was wondering, how you would open and lock the volets if the windows open out. (We don't open the windows ouside either, but out.) Ok I make hinges like that. bop: I load up the windows with full bars, and then I write a note how you can remove the one you don't want. There seems to be a lot of different versions. Ok I make them in different sizes then.. How many hinges? If you have three, then it's three on each side right? I make it with 4 and a txt file on how you can make it with 6. LrdSatyr8: Thanks... :)

Don't know if you are aware of it or not but Google has an excellent Image search function. Just click on the Image tab and enter "French windows" and you'll get hundreds of images of French doors and windows. I use the Google image search all the time to find referance images for just about anything. It's great. jon

Jon, I could not find one "parisian" window in the classical Haussmann style there;-(. I lived for 40 years in such a house in Paris where the windows were over 3 yards high (the ceiling over 4 yards) and these windows are very special. Need to find or to draw one for Alexssander:-). I expected my computer with all my programs back for yesterday, friday, but now they told me I only will get it next thuesday:-( Guitta

Attached Link: http://www.pella.com/

Results of course vary widely based on search criteria. I got a lot of different pics when I searched on [French architecture] and on [French window door]. Got surprisingly disappointing results on [Haussmann architecture window] or even just [Haussmann]. You just never know what will pop up. Still worth a few tries though. Another good way to find pics is to do a standard search for a known manufacturer since they will often have on-line catalogs of there products. Pella Windows and Doors, for example, has an extensive photo gallery of their offerings. If anyone is interested, I've included the link. Anyone know the name of a window and door manufacture in France? That could be fruitful. I'm guessing with 40 years of photographs and memories you can probably come up with a great example, Guitta. You can probably just scan in some great examples, once you get your PC back. Bummer on that front. It must be driving you crazy to be without. I think I would have paced a hole in the carpet by now if the same happened to me. Hang in there! jon
