Subject: Help with rendering eyebrows on V Vicky

Briggie ( ) posted Sun, 12 May 2002 at 2:35 PM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 6:41 AM

Hi, all! I hope I am putting this question in the right place. I am working on drow textures for V Vicky2 and Stephanie. Did hand drawn eyebrow transmaps for both figures, but am having a hard time getting Vick's to render correctly. As you see in the pic of Steph, they eyebrows show up correctly. (Yea they kinda suck right now.. its a WIP :P). stephdrowWIP.jpg When I try to get the eyebrows to show on VV, I get strips. I just can't seem to get rid of them. vvdrowwip.jpg Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Briggie

At the top of the page there is a "poser FAQ" where you can find a solution

Well.. I tried the faq from above, and this time got this.. vvdrowwip2.jpg I need to figure out what else I did wrong with making the eyebrow transmap. :/

It seems to me like you've used the Brows In (or Brows Gone, can't remember what it's called) dial. If you want to use a transparency map for the eyebrows, you shouldn't use that dial but simply set the upper eyebrows transparency max and min to 100% and apply your transparency map.

Turn the upper Eyebrows material transparent with no transparency map and make sure your texture is applied to the Eyebrows material setting. Set both brow materials to white. (Hint for drow, they're not brown and a deep blue highlight looks fantastic.)

Thanks for the info. I will give that a try. I am wondering if I didn't just do the texture wrong period for the eyebrows.

The material "Eyebrows" picks up the actual eyebrow area painted on the face. "Upper Eyebrows" reads from the funky area to the upper right of the texture map, just above the spot for the eyelashes. I usually don't even use the "Eyebrows", just not painting them in on the face(or if using someone else's texture, painting away the eyebrows on the map)and go for a transmap on the Upper Brow.

Ok! Thanks! Now we are getting somewhere! I did paint eyebrows on the face part of the texture, and then used the transmap on that same area. I was not sure which was which for the Vicky texture. Stephanie's was just soo much easier for me to figure out. Thanks again! Briggie

Don't use a transmap on the "Eyebrows" material! You'll just cut holes in her head (LOL). Stephanie actually has two separate eyebrows from her head, like Michael. I don't even understand why they put two materials for Vickie's eyebrows at all. Only transmap the upper brows.

Funny you should mention the holes in her head... I did that actually before I asked for help. It is kinda funny when you look back at it... :P I don't like Vick's texture template at all. I like Steph's so much better. Again, thank you very much for your help! Bri
