Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
If the bump maps are .jpg files (or some other picture format), they need to be converted to .bum files. Do like this: Load a simple prop into the scene, a cube or something similar. Go to materials and apply the bump file to the prop. Poser will now ask you if you want to convert it to a .bum file. Accept , and the file will be converted. Repeat with the other bump files and you're done.
I'm not using Pro Pack, So I'm not much of help in that department. I don't know if you can convert to .bum outside Poser. Poser seems to have a problem locating the bump file, and it probably asks for every body part it attempts to load it on. Be sure that the files are in the Texture folder in the Runtime directory, that is the only place Poser looks for it. You can also open the MAT file in a text editor. Look for the exact location there, the path to the bump file is stated for every body part in the MAT file. Move the files to that location, or simply edit the text in the MAT file to correspond the location of your files.
Laverboy.. From what i understand (I could be mistaken) all a "bump" map is, is an "inverted image" of the original. If you take a jpg and invert it, you can save it as texturebump.jpg... this will work for PP users, but Poser 4 will still convert to bum automatically... Am I wrong on that one/ -lee
You are absolutely correct, Lee. The concept of bump maps is well known in most 3D applications and is an inverted gray scale image where different shades of gray represents different "altitudes". Poser 4 without Pro Pack will only accept .bum files as bump maps, but they can be converted frmm other picture formats with the method described above. The disadvantage with .bum, however, is the file size, they easily end up in two-digit Mb size...
