I've aquired some 3d software [bryce5, poser4( doesnt work on my computer- "not enough memory" he says on startup, and I have 1048MB of RAM - win2000? problem?) and carrara], and to be honest, Im totally lost... The best way to start would be...???

You need to patch Poser 4. I've the same problem with my new computer and now it's ok with poser 4. Go to http://www.curiouslabs.com/downloads/index.html
