Subject: C2 and Plugins

PAGZone ( ) posted Sat, 18 May 2002 at 8:08 PM ยท edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 3:44 AM

I have a couple of questions about C2 and plugins: 1. Will C2 include the smart pack plugins? Will these work unmodified with C2? 2. In veiwing some of the awesome demo renders here, one scene has no lights except for a glowing cylinder. Does this mean that C2 includes built in functions similar to Anything Glows? Will this make Anything Glows redundant or all together obsolete? 3. Will plugins that work for the Mac platform work for both OS9 and OSX or do plugins also need to be carbonized before they work in X? Maybe I should be directing these questions to Eovia, but this forum is awesome and scince there be beta testers in these thar threads..... Regards, Paul

Hi Paul . I can answer the first two questions . 1. Yes, all the Smart Packs plug-ins will be there, unchanged . 2. In CS2, all glowing objects cast light when you use the new Global Illumination renderer . If you use a glowing sphere as a bulb light for example, it will cast a realistic light, and the shadows will be great :) . It does make Anything Glows look a bit obsolete to me, but if you need to stick to the Raytracer because of rendering time, then you'll surely still find some use for AG lights . Now i'll let one of the plug-in guys answer your third question because i know nothing about Macs, code writing, or carbonization ;) Later, litst

Lit, Does Anything Grooves and Anything Grows work with C2 as well? I bought both those and use them a lot, I would hate to lose those components. JDexter

Hi folks,

Let me answer the rest of the questions.

There will probably be seperate OS9 and OSX versions of the Mac plugins. However the Carrara SDK is pretty good about keeping the plugin developers away from the platform stuff so I imagine it will simply be a recompile and won't take any significant extra time.

As for Anything Grooves and Grows, they will have to be updated to work in C2. Shortly after eovia releases the C2 SDK, I'll put out C2 versions of Anything Grows, Anything Grooves, and Shader Ops. There will be no cost to upgrade for existing DCG customers.

Eric:
I was putting off buying these two wonderful plug-ins until C2 and them where out. But you will be getting some of my money pretty soon. I think it is really cool of you not to charge your customers an upgrade fee. This is just one more of the reasons I love Carrara.
