off topic - I am looking for an utility that will tell me all the programs running in the background in my system and more about them. I want to see if anyhting is running I don't need. I use the CTL-ALT-DEL to see but I know more can exist. Plus I am always checking my program startup section of Win98SE If anyone knows a good one of these can you give me its name? Thanks!

Yes, look for a program called WinSystem. I use it at work a lot and it is great.

Another program that might interest you is called EndItAll. It does just that, kills everything running in the background except Explorer and Systray with just one click.

Microsoft's power toys for windows 95 includes WinTop which gives you something close to the NT task manager in that it will let you view/kill any active s=tasks and their threads. The readme says it's for '95 only, but I've been using it for months on 98SE with no problems. It's a simple program and it's free.
