I'm new, I want to know how to make ppl, add clothes, etc. I'm a newbie and I can't do anything yet,Please help.

PhilC ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 6:26 PM

If you can be specific rather than general, I/we can be more of a help. Where would you like to start?

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 6:27 PM

Whoa, you just asked a mouthful. Here's where I would begin. The Manual. It contains all sorts of useful information that will get you up and running in no time. "But Darth," You say, "I don't have the manual because I downloaded Poser from a warez group." Sure you do. I am told that the warez version contains the huge help file, which is really just the manual in acrobat reader format. Furthermore, there is a book at your bookstore called "The Poser 4 Handbook". It's mostly disappointing from what I've read about it, but it is gold for newcommers. We're all happy to help with specific things, but I don't think anyone is prepared to type up a new manual here at the forum. -Darth_Logice

P.S. Play with it and explore everything. It is pretty user friendly. -DL

Poser is very user friendly and you will get the hang of it soon. Read through the tutorials section here and practice,it is the only way.

Start sllooowly grashopper jumping in with both feet will get you soaked. Take it one step at a time. Start with whats in the manual get a good foothold and UNDERSTAND whats in the manual. Most of these things will teach you how to move ,light, and position people also how to change the ones that come with poser. Once you get those basics and they are the basics you will understand better such things as morph targets, textures, composition etc. Then you will be able to understand what it takes to make people cloths etc. It takes more tools other than just Poser in order to actualy MAKE new people and cloths. If you don't know the basics you will get lost and frustrated very quickly and then want to give up. A good saying to remember is "you must first learn to walk before you can learn to run."

......and if That all still doesn't help, Read thru some of the Tutorial Links to the right. They will help a lot. I know that because the tutorials have helped me far more than the manual, and the fact that People here have been generous enough to reach out and help, but like PhilC said. ask specifics. Sprout PS: Darth_Logice, Dont take this too personal but, Nice warm welcome there for a new person,"the warez bit". The person was just asking for help. , not a lecture on Piracy, Lets greet all our new people that way eh?

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 7:52 PM

Sprout-- I don't know which fantasy text you read, but nowhere in my responses did I pronounce judgement on piracy. In fact, if you do a search you'll find a thread where I defend it. I simply covered the possibility that he's got no manual because he's got a warez copy. Not taking it too personal, but please do read for context. If he has a warez copy and no manual, he's been helped. If he's got a legit copy and a manual, he's been helped. That is a welcome IMHO. The tutorials to the right do not really address the basics that this person needs. This person needs the manual or needs to be directed to the acrobat file on his HD. -Darth_logice

Sprout ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 8:02 PM

Ok Fair enough.... but one minor thing you forgot while responding.. READ what the question was. Did they say " I have no manual"? or did they simply ask for help. And I do read for"context" I seem to have been able to understood The true question adressed.

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 8:08 PM

Okay, Touche', sort of. I helped in my own stern way. As you can see, the original question is wider than the grand canyon. It is beyond the scope of a forum question. If I was trying to be mean, I'd say "Get bent" :) -Darth "Pointing out that he's a Darth" Logice

LOL Like I said Nothing Personal :O) Sprout

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 8:23 PM

I just would like to make one comment here: "The manual sucks!!!" I've found more helpful information up here and in the tutorials than in that manual. I hardly ever look at it now. But I have read the darn thing. Didn't understand the animation at all, so I'll eventually read someone's tutorials on it.

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 8:26 PM

Sprout, you're allright with me. One more thing...if anyone has ever tried to help someone with computer things, then you'll know what happens if you're too nice: 1. Telephone call at 8:27 during a very funny moment of Buffy... "Hey, Darth, how do I turn my computer on?" 2. Telephone call at 8:47 during the exciting climax..will Buffy Perish? "Hey, Darth...computer is on but it's scanning my hard drive..where's windows?" 3. Telephone call at 9:14, Cordellia is looking really hot on "Angel" "Hey Darth, can you drive an hour and help me?" Darth, "Are we still platonic? Yes? Then, I don't think so.." 4. One hour later...Angel taping... "Okay, I'm here, what's up?" Newbie, "Oh, nothing...I figured it out. My mouse wasn't plugged in." 5. One hour later...Angel tape ejected by cat after five minutes of taping...cat dead...phone rings "Hey darth, how do I get into chat?" And it goes on and on like that..thus my policy of RTFM first, play on your own until you are a little familiar with key concepts...then ask specific questions. -Darth_Logice

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2000 at 8:30 PM

Dreams-- Yeah, the manual sucks when you're looking for intermediate and advanced information.... But for the basics, it's gold. (sort of, I mean, it will get you up and running.) -Darth

ROTFLMFAO @ The clown thingie...egads, nightmares sure to follow. -DL

As suggested above, read the manual and experiment with the basic concepts behind Poser (posing, conforming clothes, lighting, props, morphing etc). If you run into a brickwall and simply can't get to grips with something - come here and ask. We can usually help, and we don't bite (well, not often grin). And welcome to the Forum Zorin Paul
