Subject: How well does Bryce work in XP?

I am close to getting a new system and I was considering windows XP. Does Bryce work well in XP? Thanks.

YES, YES and YES....works real well. I also noticed Poser works excellent on it, where as before some options wouldn't work unless you did some fiddling. Sharen

Im running Bryce 5 on XP Pro, and it works very well. It even renders slightly faster because XP handles memory better than win98. AND...no lockups! :) Make sure you have a minimum of 512 mb RAM. I dont know about the Home-edition though...

I am using XP Pro as well. Bryce and Poser are running great on it. No complaints from me.

Yes workes amazinly well. I was in the hospital from Feb 1 until last week. The hospital gave me an old laptop to use, it was a 166, 64 megs of ram, 1.8 gig hard drive with 500 megs free and was running xp pro, it did not crash while using Bryce, render times were slow but thats the computer not the os. Now I'm home and using a 1.4 thunderbird, 528 megs of ddram and a gforce 3 with XP home and it runs great.

I'm using XP home edition - Bryce 4 works well, but I could never get Bryce 5 to work on the XP and eventually returned it. Corel's opinion was that there may have been a corruption in that particular installation disk that my XP didn't like and though they offered to replace the CD, I decided to stick with 4. My Poser 4 works well, too.

Daniel7Mc ( ) posted Fri, 24 May 2002 at 5:41 PM

I have Poser 4, Bryce 4 & Bryce 5 running fine (so far) on XP Home Edition.

mboncher ( ) posted Fri, 24 May 2002 at 6:13 PM

I've not crashed my XP system since I got it... Locked up bryce 5 only a few times, but that could also be my lack of patience :::sheepish blush grin:::: The ONLY complaint I have is that the damn thing won't let you use the task bar at the bottom without first minimizing it totally. It's a known flaw and Neither Corel or MS have any intentions of doing a service patch. So it'll be fixed in Bryce 6. Other than that, C'est manifique!

Daniel7Mc ( ) posted Fri, 24 May 2002 at 6:26 PM

Thanks for mentioning that mboncher, about the taskbar, I thought I was doing something wrong ... ;-)

jelisa ( ) posted Fri, 24 May 2002 at 8:58 PM

You can use the taskbar without minimizing B5 by hitting the Windows key. The Start menu will pop up, but don't click on it unless you want to access something from that menu. To access something on the taskbar, just wait for the Start menu to pop up, then click on the minimized window on the taskbar that you want to access. This will also allow the Bryce render to continue while you do something else. -darlisa

Personally I don't like XP. It's too microsoft and the 'new' interface is ugly. Other than that I've never heard any complaints of bryce not working with XP.

I do agree with Rayraz about XP. And who needs 400 new skins to mediaplayer anyway... Only reason for using it, is because of that memory-handling thing. BTW, theres actually a way to get rid of some crap installed. Some stuff is hidden in the uninstaller. Go to the c:/windows/inf and locate the file "sysoc.inf". Open it up with wordpad and delete all the words "hidden". ONLY THE ACTUAL WORDS, NOTHING ELSE!!! Save, and now you can see new stuff in the uninstaller.

regarding original post: Message671410.jpg Mr Burns and Bill and Ted in haromny "Exellent" regarding older is better billgates is a loser stuff: nothing can prevent progress.if you are more comfortable with mac or windows 95 - thats fine. but I have my preferences too and I see no need to make myself uncomfortable or inconvienienced to support a viewpoint I don't share.

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 25 May 2002 at 10:39 AM

To stick with Anti-microsoft things: Did you know that Bill gates started Microsoft as we know it today by telling IBM that he hat what they needed. He said: 'It's called DOS. Disk Operating System' and he made a deal with IBM. But in fact he had actually not even one bit close to DOS! He just bought it from some virtually non-known programmer and selled it for much, much more to IBM! If that isn't a corrupt marketing technique then I don't know what is.

As for Rochr: Thanks for the 'hidden' thing (It's a typical nasty microsoft trick). I'll have a try with it at my own windowsME. Maybe that will work too.

Check my sponsor link. It's officially not related to Microsoft, but if you take a look at it you can defenitly see microsoft has been a source of inspiration. (The site is made by a friend of me and he has even had a responce from Microsoft! You can read it in the quotes-section.) It's a fun site let's all have a look.

OT: Yeah I heard all about it 22 years ago. When I drove Chevys I didn't criticize Ford for assasinating striking workers during the 20s and 30s,(GM did it too), or Winchester for supplying the rifles that did the deed. There's more to bgates that you'll ever know and none of it's good. on the other hand I've got better ways of spending my time than criticising him. If you want to make your own OS you could read that Duncan guys books, use Linux, or any of a hundred positive things. Message671424.jpg - everyone criticises the weather but no one brings an umbrella.

My friend make microsoft-alternatives. Like Textshield, to replace word. I'd like to swich to linux as much as possible, but I'll first get a bigger hard-disk.

Yeah my organic spellchecker doesn't work too well either. you'd think a guy with a degree in geology would do better . . . Problem with Linux is I don't think Bryce supports it... could be wrong there (and there are so many versions of Linux). I'm as happy with XP for Bryce now as I was using W95. XP seems alot friendlier memory wise towards Bryce and doesn't(or hasn't) locked up like 95 used to do.

big_hoovie ( ) posted Sun, 26 May 2002 at 1:38 PM

RayRaz....regarding your hatred for the new XP look.....did you know you CAN change it to the win98 style ?? It is accessible by right-clicking on the desktop, selecting prefrences, and choosing the appearance tab(at the top of the dialog box thjat pops up). THere will be a dropdown menu titled "Windows and Buttons" select "Windows Classic style" to return to that retro win98 look. -big_hoovie-

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 28 May 2002 at 12:28 PM

Thankx big_hoovie. I didn't know that. I'll do that as soon as I have to work on an XP computer again.
