Has anybody expiriens comparing Vick and Dina?

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 12:33 AM

half a dozen discussion threads went over comparisons and opinions exhaustively some time back - just do a search on Dina

jhostick ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 12:35 AM

In my opinion the better figure is Vicky 2, without a doubt. More attractive figure, more morphs, more clothing, more hair styles, more textures... jhostick

and vicky is easier on the system Dina is an extremely dense mesh. they ( D.S.I. ) have low res version avail and a version cut for Vicky's outfits. the Dina mesh does have quite a number of good morphs, it is easily altered to create different appearances...as the original woman is quite the chameleon the mesh can have drastically different looks easily. My only real problem with Dina is the density of the mesh making system groan when she is loaded.

Personally I like both Vicky and Dina. I don't have any strict preferance. Hell I still tend to use Posette more than any other. But for morphing Dina's great. Clothing Vina handles vicky's clothing But I can achieve a look with one character where I can't with another which just kind of helps me NOT have a favorite L

I have both Vickie and Dina, would probably have Dina V if she was available as an upgrade for those of us who first bought Dina. I like Vickie best, but I will use Dina for a different character. I do use Vickie and Stephanie the most because the original Dina is just too ugly for most quick renders, and I haven't gotten a chance to try to work with morphing her to make her look better. Of course Dina V. looks better so you would be starting out with a better model. And please, before you get out the pitchforks and torches, you all know that the original Dina is ugly. Marque

Dina has been around for several months now, and I can't remember the last time I saw a "render" with Dina in it. Dina has almost no support in Free Stuff from anyone. In fact, many people who support Dina scoff at the very idea of Free Stuff. One thing that helps Vicky and Mike is the huge amount of Free Stuff available for them. Some of us don't have a lot of money. It may take awhile before we can afford lots of clothes, hair, etc for Vicky and Mike. We can do quite nicely with all the Free Stuff. Dina V is not really an improvement on the problem. Dina V is really a new character. She's really a less sophisticated verion and that allows her to wear Vicky's clothes. In accomplishing this goal, many of the more sophisticated features of Dina's mesh are lost. I was disappointed in their decision to make this change. In effect they were dumping the original Dina.

movida ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 6:44 AM

No features of Dina V's mesh were lost. Dina V is available for purchase (all features intact). VinaD is the figure that wears Vicky's clothes and is a separate figure. I have both (Vicky and Dina V). If you don't have either (and it seems that is the situation) you should probably buy Vicky first due to the large amount of 3rd party merchandise available...grab your credit card g. I prefer Dina (personal opinion). But I have ZBrush and just recently purchased Bushi's face shaper so morphing possibilities for me are endless and I'm learning texturing so for me, Dina rocks s

movida ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 6:47 AM

PS: go look at the Carmen character for Dina V. Very nice. Sorry, Marque, I don't think DinaV is ugly, I think Vicky is sterile looking...again, personal opinion

Jaqui ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 6:51 AM

Dina V, original model Vina D Dina cut to wear vicky's clothes. low res Dina lost, or will lose (not sure if available yet) nothing but mesh density where it isn't needed. I know that DSI wouldn't ruin the morphability of Dina by killing the mesh where the morphs are needed.

movida ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 6:56 AM

Another nice Dina character that I forgot (and I have her...and apologies to Handspan studios) is Katia. Boy she's a little fox g. Their textures for Dacorts' clothes are wonderful also

movida ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 7:02 AM

The thing about the Dina/Vicky situation that really opened my eyes, is the fact that, with the exception of Handspan Studios (and hats off to them), not ONE of the major skin texture vendors ever did a skin for Dina. Almost a united front eh?

movida - What is this Bushi's Face Shaper you speak of? Where may I find it? Thanks!

Here's a Dina head morph I'm working on, far from finished.

She's wearing DThurgrief's (sp?) Carmen texture, but I started with the "stock" DinaV head and didn't use any of Dianes' morphs

Ironbear ( ) posted Thu, 30 May 2002 at 12:11 PM

If you have a lot of Vicki clothing and items to work with, I'd be tempted to suggest the VinaD stand alone - she can wear Vicki conforming items, she loses the big shoulders look that so many people seemed to object to, and the carmen morph is pretty. Downside is you also get Victoria's joint parameters. I'm with Stormrage - I like different models for different looks. Even if I were to take a modeler and design the exact same morph for posette and vicki, the resulting characters would look different because the base mesh has different chracteristics and different shapes. The posette version would be shorter and curvier, for example.

I think both are nice characters. I do have both, but due to the fact that I can't get clothes I already have to fit Dina, I don't use her much. They both have alot of potential. Truth be told, I prefer Stephanie over both Dina and Vick. Briggie

~looking at Stormrage's computer..sitting on my desk~ yup, I know what she;s got for poser, since I have it here and she has my laptop. ~l~ Dina is really nice to work with morph wise. but then so is vicky...( looking at 20 mb cr2 for vicky) as with almost everything, it's personal choice. ~l~

lmckenzie ( ) posted Fri, 31 May 2002 at 3:17 AM

I'd say have at least 512MB of memory for Dina. I use the lo-res Dina occasionally but then you can't use the morphs for the hi-res version. There is simply no comparison in the availibility of free and commercial add-ons. There is at least an order of magnitude more available for Vicky. There's certainly a lot of potential in Dina. It's kind of like a Mac vs. PC situation. The Mac is a nice machine, but in terms of software availibility, user groups, spare parts, etc., the PC wins hands down.

Hmmm, you can build a PC from parts. You have an abundance of choices for parts and sources for parts. You can buy a "pre-built" PC from a multitude of companies or stores. Last I knew you can't build a Mac. Last I knew there were no "current" Mac clones still alive. I think in "the old days," a few existed but were killed by Apple? Ooops, this is off-topic. Sorry.
