hey im currently wanting to begin modeling my first model and since i am fairlly new to poser i have not had much experience in creating models, i want to make an alien poser model as accurate tot eh pictures as possible and would like to know if there are any good online tutorials around, or perhaps if anyone has any good ones they could send me. if i do complete the model and it looks good i will put it in the freestuff section for all to use. i also have countless numbers of pics to get my model bearing from so all i need know is the knowledge to do it :)

Chris First off you'll need to determine what Program you'll be using to model the figure in - Poser, and even ProPak has no native modeling capabilities. Click on the link at the top of this page labeled "tutorials" and browse thru the various sections there. If you've already selected your modeling program, you can visit the Forum for the program you'll use and ask additional questions there, but a visit to the Tutorials section would still be a good place to start. It looks like you're starting with the Giger-esque Alien character - a formidable task. Several people have tackled it before, some have done quite well. If you'll go to the margin under "Features" and click on "Search" there, it will bring up the Whole-Site search engine. Type alien into it, and take some time to browse the links it finds - It may save you a lot of time in the long run, one way or another. Good luck with your project - and don't hesitate to keep posting questions and progress reports - A lot of folks here love to help! Cheers!

A month or two ago I took 2 weeks and polled this and a few other 3D sites and forums on the web as too what were the most popular modeling programs used by our most creative members. The overwhelming consensus was the best modeler is the one you're most comfortable using. As far as specific recommendations on which to recommend, Rhino 2 was tied with Lightwave for first place (as I recall), followed by 3DStudioMax. (You can do a search in this forum for "leather-guy" and look for the thread I posted my results in (Started with the word Results, as I recall). Based on my results I bought a copy of Rhino 2.0 I'm studying in my all-too-rare free time, and a copy of Lightwave 7.5 I haven't even opened, yet. There are a number of free, and almost free modelers used by some of our members as well. Between now and when you get your computer upgrade, you should browse the various software-specific Galleries and Forums here, to see what kind of work is being turned out, and what kind of experiences users have with the software. * * * * There follows brief admonition, as you seem to be a newcomer to the site. That's a pretty impressive list of software you have available. I certainly won't pry, but I hope they're all legal, registered copies; I don't mean to sound preachy, and I'm not one of the Renderosity admins or moderators, but this site adheres to a vehemently anti-warez policy at all times. You can click on the TOS (terms of service) link for clarification. By joining here, we all agree to the principles and restrictions therein. That said, there's a tremendous Virtual feast of knowledge here to indulge yourself in, dig in! ... any further questions, post away; as you can see by the activity, this is one of the most active forums I've ever found, and members here truly love to share their knowledge and experiences in the Virtual world of Poser. cheers, yeah, i know there is a lot of software there and the reason for that is that i am doin a year course in interactive mutlimedia beggining next year and then a 4 year course at University in the same area which will conerntrate mainly in the areas of 3d animation and mesh creation. so i decided i would get some software that some of my friends recommended. I like poser because of its user friendly interface and is the program i have been using mostly. the others are more complex and i want to learn the basics before i start the courses and also becuase i enjoy seeing the fruits of my labour "come to life".

I've been playing with zbrush for about 6 weeks. i don't have the time to spend on learning it that i would like...but, it ROCKS. I model in rhino. but, check out the stuff in the zbrush gallery...someday, right? also there are just TONS of tutes for it at www.pixolator.com. to me, tutes are important. our rhino forum is very good, lots of learning help, as well. well, that's my 2 pop's worth.
