Subject: Mecom4's down...what are php files??

Patricia ( ) posted Wed, 05 June 2002 at 5:54 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 1:14 PM

I downloaded a beautiful set of weapons (or maybe just the textures? I was tired! can't recall) and used Stuffit to expand the file just fine. But the file extension is unknown to me or my Mac--.php ? And Mecom4, the site of origin, is "administratively down" at the moment. Anybody familiar with php's?

They are splitting up and there are two sites now, it's a mess. If you are a subscriber you should have gotten an email explaining what is going on. Marque

queri ( ) posted Wed, 05 June 2002 at 6:29 PM

Or sorta what's going on. I only got one official email which I can't find. I'm a paying member, I asked at the time if I was screwed. Was assured otherwise. But I have big doubts now. Emily

Try mec4d.com and see if it works for you. You should know there is a ongoing dispute about the copyright of the props, but the freebies seem to be out of that dispute, just be careful about buying anything propwise until the dispute is settled. I'm not taking sides, I don't know all the info. Emily

.php is a file extension used for web pages for pages using the PHP language. PHP is similar to PERL, but not so user hostile. I use it on my site for navagation - it makes adding new pages very easy. It's used a lot for connecting to web database. I'm kinda assuming we're screwed for the Mec4D vs. Mecom4D. I had a feeling the site would start having issues - renderocity, poser4u (I think there was another after that) and now Mecom4D. I just figured it would take longer for the latest meltdown. All of her sites seem to go poof after a certain amount of time. Stupid me, I thought this one would take a bit longer than it did.

You can post in the forums at Mec4d if you have a problem with a prop, I'm sure Cath will be very quick to answer.

I have been trying to get in and it just times out. I think I'm going to stop subscribing to sites. They're great for a while and then they just slow down or you can't get what you need due to bandwidth problems. Marque

If you can log in to post I wish you would find out what's up with it just sitting. Thanks, Marque

I know that Cat goes through partners like some people do toilet paper. As for the props, all things considered I think that would depend on Luis's contract wouldn't it? If no contract was signed then there's no legal bounds, he did the work as an employee.. I in a strange way hope she did him like others and didn't sign a contract with him. If so, all those props are owned by Luis. I'll tell you now, there are problems deep to the core of Mecom or whatever they are calling themselves now. I admit I was finally paid, which was nice, after being removed for her.. umm 2nd partner/owner who by the way has been booted just as well. The current affairs, I can only tell you from my limited experience with the whole affair from the early months of the whole shindig... Anyway maybe one of them will come here and tell us what's going on? Tom M.

Believe me, everyone has a right to do what they want with their businesses, but the members shouldn't suffer. I saw something about a name change or something, but no sort of explanation like what's been described here. I'm just as glad I never paid for any membership or merchandise. I'll stick with someone who's been around for awhile. So far that means I only have one subscription, and I'll keep it that way.

mada ( ) posted Wed, 05 June 2002 at 10:13 PM

I just logged on, no problems here. Maybe there is a connection problem somewhere, the site is working fine though. I notice on the frontpage it says best viewed with IE, are you trying with netscape?

Hello Everyone, in regards to Mecom4d and it's second member's site, they have been permanently closed. We are now Mec4D. Mec4D has been totally reworked in to a new site, with a new partnership by Cath and Myself. We have a new file management system that has many different galleries of artwork submitted by some very talented artists. Our forums are moderated by some very dedicated artists who are more then happy to assist in any technical issues that arise. There are also many new projects on the near horizon that are being developed for the site that will be revealed shortly and will better serve our growing group of members and artists alike. In regards to the props issues that have been circulated by someone with questionable ethics. Mec4D does not deal with or support any fraudulent products. We do not deal with or sell any type of "illegal" or "Copyrighted" products. Because of this person's actions and motives, we have restructured how props will be designed and distributed, so that the many members we have will be able to enjoy these fine products. The URL to the new Mec4D is located at: http://www.Mec4D.com Regards, Eric - Mec4D Owner

Crescent ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 12:45 AM

That's nice, but it still doesn't deal with those of us who paid money for "Lifetime Subscriptions" and 2 months later saw the subscription go away. Even for a dot com, 2 months is a very short life. I'm not blaming you. As far as I know, you're new to the renderocity ... etc. business. Catherine had made promises which seem to have gone by the wayside. I do know that if people don't see something tangible soon there's going to be a LOT of bad feelings and bad publicity.

I know I paid for a year's service and then POOF. Hopefully it will get straigtened out soon. If I had known I would have spent my 50 bucks somewhere else

Yanno, I got that email too. But no one has responded to my questions about the members area. I even posted in teh forum and I was ignored. Advertisment is great, but it has to follow through. That email did not give me access to members area, nor has it allowed me to USE the membership I paid for. Color me disenchanted.

Caru ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 4:04 AM

I wouldn't even think about subscribing to a site that seems to a) change layout about once a month b) change staff about once a month c) change license about once a month and d) change name about once a month For some strange reason a site like that just does not convince me. shrug Might be just me...

At one point the design seemed to be changing about once a week-- yup, that's on my Warning List from now on. Spending more time on dolling up the site than servicing it, is also not top of the pops for me. Emily

Hisminky ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 5:49 AM

Mazak, Yes I posted. I even posted in the OLD forum before its demise and no one ever bothered to reply. That sort of set the tone of the whole ordeal to begin with. Then I read this disturbing rant on the members site. Yanno, I haven't the slightest interest in politics or "who did what to whom". In my opinion, that is a very bad way to do business. Even hinting at slander and libel makes me nervous. I would NEVER become a merchant with a group that so freely implies such unsubstatiated rumors. What I do have an interest in, is that I paid for a subscription that is now on hold or isn't there and a whole lot of promises that it will "be better, faster, more lovely". Does this mean that our memberships will be extended by the amount of time we have to wait for the "members area" to be fixed? Well I don't see any of that and I coughed up money for a membership.

Eowyn ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 7:47 AM

Er... what exactly is slander and libel? Slightly OT maybe, but why aren't people allowed to share their negative experiences and views on things? If I go to a restaurant and the food they serve me is bad and cold, I will definitely let my friends know about it. This isn't any different... IMVHO, when people have bad experiences about something they should be allowed to voice it without being threatened with lawyers and what not.

Hisminky ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 8:23 AM

Eowyn, Letting friends know about it and hinting at something illegal without proof are two different things. But I think you missed my point. I don't care who did what to whom. I just want to know when my membership, that I paid for is going to be functional without a list of excuses. Let me put it another way; If you take your car to the dealership to get it fixed, are you going to wait a month or more with the manager implying they can't fix it because a particular mechanic did something illegal? More than that, WOULD they tell you that if they couldn't fix your car? And WOULD you be upset if you already paid for the repairs and your car still didn't work?

Eowyn ( ) posted Thu, 06 June 2002 at 8:46 AM

Ah, I get your point and yeah I can understand your concern. I guess I should be happy I'm not a member. And as for hinting at something illegal... I don't know and don't even care. My personal dislike towards the site in question is just my opinion and I don't know the first thing about what is going on behind the scenes.
