Subject: Have the Meta Creation-Programms finally been sold?

Joerg Weber ( ) posted Mon, 14 February 2000 at 8:37 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 6:34 AM

Hi everyone, I haven't been to active lately and haven't read all the news about Meta Creations lately. However, just yesterday I read in a computer-magazin, that all of the Meta Creation-Programms have been sold to other software-corporations. Does anyone know if this is true? And if it is true, does anyone know who bought all the programms? Thanks, Lanover

Yes it's all true MC going solo with MetaStream.

I just got a Carrara ad today. They are pushing it as a 3D web/Metastream product.

The latest news in MacWorld is that Meta hasn't actually sold any of the programs yet, and they won't say which they will be keeping and which they will be selling.

They have sold some of their programs... Powershow, Super Goo and Photo Soap for sure.

Here is another little titbit and possible casualty of the whole Metacreation's fiasco. This may be old news to some but I only just became aware of it while looking at the various home pages of Photoshop plugin developers. It seems that the French company Rayflect (makers of the PhotoTracer, Fourseasons, Four Elements etc plugins) were sold to MetaCreations on October 18th. On the MetaCreations homesite at the bottom of the Products page there is a Rayflect tab and when you click on it you get details about support but also the information that MetaCreations are incorporating Rayflect products into their product line! If it were not so sad it would almost be funny. I wonder if we should add the Rayflect employees to the list of people laid off by Meta Creations before Christmas? I wonder what the future of the Rayflect products is?

Sorry I should have given the site page for anyone interested www.rayflect.com They have a page up with the information.

Most of the Rayflect people are still working at MC on Carrara (the future of which is uncertain). -JH.
