Subject: Poser & Memory

How do I allocate memory, specifically to Poser, I've been trying to use Vicki's Bikini top but I get an error message about "Not enough memory," when Poser is the only application running? The Bikini bottom and the rest of my Clothing/Figures work? Anyone to solve this without buying more RAM? Thanks, Paul

If you are using a PC you cannot allocate more memory to Poser. More RAM is always a good idea and it is very inexpensive now.

Ok, thanks.

OTOH, if you are on a Mac, it is easy to allocate more memory specifically to any program. Give Poser at least 200 megs and it will quite happily load millennium figures and fancy hair. Less than that, and it will fuss and hang and sulk. If you are on a Windows box, just add more RAM in general... it is about the cheapest way to improve a system's performance. Carolly

Also, the "Not enough memory," message does seem to come up at odd times. I'm using a fairly old PC that struggles with more than 3 figures. When I'm ready to do the final render I usually reboot the comp, open the Poser project and render. That seems to usually work.

@PCline26 i always get this message when i tried to add something from the library to my scenery and poser couldnt find the obj-file for this object. But before i got the message "Not enough memory..." i always got a message about the missing obj file linked in the cr2 file. Check if you have the file blBikinitop.obj in runtimegeometrieszygoteclothingmilwom. Hope this will help you

scifiguy ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 4:30 PM

The not enough memory error is Poser's generic "I can't load that obj file" error on a PC. Delete the blBikinitop.rsr file in the directory crusher mentions. Poser creates rsr's and loads those instead of the obj directly...the rsr's get corrupted all the time sigh. If you have one that seems to get corrupted a lot, load the item, then immediately go into the geometries and make the rsr read only. Should keep it from getting messed up again.

@scifiguy Thanks, that works. I appreciate it. Paul

It sounds like the question was pretty well covered. I can only add that, when it comes to graphics, you're best off getting as much memory as possible, within reason. For example, I have an "old Celeron" motherboard. The maximum amount of memory I can handle is 512MB of RAM. I got mine pretty cheaply, and I've been very happy ever since. But yes, Poser does have a weird habit of giving you faulty error messages. Just imagine a little child who only knows how to say one or two things. Imagine that child having a little temper tantrum and saying "I don't have enough memory to do that." The other silly error message some of us get is "Not enough disk space to render at the current resolution." I believe that error message is pretty much confined to Windows 2000 and Windows XP.... You could get that if you had a whole 30GB hard drive FREE! In my experience the ultimate solution to that problem was to put Poser on a 30GB hard drive by itself. Ron

As I said before, i only get this memory message when there is something wrong with the obj-file linked in the cr2 of the figure i want to add in poser. Im working on a Inspiron 8200 with 512MB DDR RAM and a HD with 20GB where poser is installed and a few games. The message about not enough diskspace for rendering ive never seen at any time. I wouldnt say that those error messages are confined to W2K, this is a very stable OS in my opinion. I got more bluescreens and hang-offs on Win98. But, it doesnt matter, PCline26 has found a solution for his problem without buying more RAM and a bigger and faster HD. Ron
