Subject: Rabbi Props

gorak33 ( ) posted Wed, 12 June 2002 at 7:10 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 11:46 AM

Hey all Anybody seen any really good Rabbi props? Well, they don't necesserily have to be rabbinical... For example, a yalmuka ("the little hat that jewish people wear") and a payes hair prop ("the little curls on the side that those New York Jews always have...") are the things I'm looking for most...A driedle ("the little square things they spin") would be nice...A non-losher Torah scroll ("the things that the funny little symbols are written on") would be nice, but that might be a little blasphemous... (Forgive my translations, but those are what I've heard people call various Jewish artifacts...I've actually had to describe things in this fashion to some people...) Anyway, any props like the above would be great...

I plan to make a lot of Rabbinic and Temple props soon, including a kippah. I have a Tallit in freestuff, it was made by Thip, the textures by me. The Tallit is really good though. Look at my homepage, and then go to my freestuff, and download it.

BTW - Digital Scrolls are kosher and are not blasphemous - I know the halakha here. Plus, I could make some mezuzot, I'll need some help for the peyes, since I'm not really sure how to make hair props. A dreydel would be easy. I also plan a Menorah, and hey! Perhaps some challah bread. However, NO GEFILTE FISH!

I said I know the halakha here, well not really. I just know it's not against the Torah to delete files that have God's Name on it, since it only applies to physical engravings, and can't be physically destroyed, etc. However, I see no reason why a Torah scroll would be blasphemous.

I was wondering about the legality of a "digital torah scrool" (that's why I stipulated non-kosher.) I feel bad for the poor rabbi who had to rule on that question... Imagine skimming through all of the commentaries and talmudic writings on the subject... Ouch... Anyhow, your tallit is very nice...The style is not one I've seen before, but it's very nicely crafted.... Where'd you find the fabulous hat for your orthodox Jew? It's about perfect for the upcoming render I plan.

Well while were at it how about the star of David? I agree on the (NO GEFILTE FISH!) How about a Ruben=mmm go for one right now. I'm Jewish (mother) but I have english and a wee bit of the Irish. Thats why I'm the only Jewish person (I know that believes in Fairies) lol :O) In this picture I was trying to show the Sad part of Jewish and Arab children can't be friends, and their world is in constate war. I had to use a tub-2-D for the stars. :O( Shalom Leah

"I feel bad for the poor rabbi who had to rule on that question..." lol. I saw it on the internet, on a "Ask a Rabbi" think somewhere. But nowadays, you can get the entire Talmud on CD, at Davka.com, and it ROCKS! "Where'd you find the fabulous hat for your orthodox Jew? It's about perfect for the upcoming render I plan." Honestly, I have no idea. Oh! Wait! I do remember now. It was a LONG time ago when I did that picture. I got the hat from propsguild.com, but now I think they've gone to a subscription based site! =-(

"Well while were at it how about the star of David?" Hey, that's not too hard to create either. Good idea. "I agree on the (NO GEFILTE FISH!)" lol. I didn't like it when I tried it. A bit of an acquired taste I'm sure! "I'm Jewish (mother) but I have english and a wee bit of the Irish." I'm not Jewish, but I support Israel and the Jews. If your mom is Jewish you are halakhically Jewish. "Thats why I'm the only Jewish person (I know that believes in Fairies) lol :O)" lol. I don't think I can find a thing about fairies in the Torah, all of the Talmud (Mishnah and Gemara), any of the Midrashim, or even in the Zohar! =-P "In this picture I was trying to show the Sad part of Jewish and Arab children can't be friends, and their world is in constate war. I had to use a tub-2-D for the stars. :O" What is the saddest thing is when that Arab girl named Ayat, blew herself up, killing a girl just about her same age, named Racheal Levy, I believe. Sigh. Sha'alu shalom Yerushalayim, Ben

Thanks Ben, Yes my mother was Jewish by birth, Her Grandmother got dis-owed, by her Family for marrying a Black Irishman(blue eyes black hair). The family sat Shiva for her. My Grandmother married my grandfather who was part German and Lakato. Mixed up back ground.LOL:O) But my Dads side came right over from England. His Father was 1/2 Irish and English. Grandmother was 100% English. Her first husband went down in the Titanic. She then came to America and Married my Grandfather at age 30 and had 5 children. Which makes me 100% American. I have 4 sisters and everyone of us is a differant religion. My niece married a 100% Navajo. So Family get togethers have always been fun. I'll save the funny stories for later. It would be nice to see some poser Jewish things. Then I could do a non Fairy Picture.

Love is Grandchildren.

Preston ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 7:53 PM

TalmidBen, I'm still working on it and it will probably just be the textures and the props. For now the gown is a PoserWorld biblical gown. If I can work out the details it won't be much.

TalmidBen ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 11:43 PM

Turtle - Whoa! Talk about an eclectic family! - Preston, what inspired you to do this set of works? Ya know, Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple institute came to my area, and he had with him the VERY JEWELS that will go in the Breastplate, when the Temple is rebuilt.

gorak33 ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 12:02 AM

I'm not sure that's in the forseeable future...

TalmidBen ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 12:17 AM

They are already creating the Temple articles, and training the priests, if I'm not mistaken.

gorak33 ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 3:57 AM

Need a Messiah and a red cow first, though... Those don't just fall into our lap's everyday...

TalmidBen ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 4:10 AM

=-) The red heifer is ready, I believe, and the Messiah will NOT come for this Temple (to build it). There is a split in the Orthodox Community as one side believes that Israel is commanded to build it, with or without a Messiah, and the other side believes that the Messiah himself will build it. I firmly believe that the Messiah will NOT build this next Temple coming up, but will build the next one after it - which will be the Perfect Millennial Temple (don't worry, I believe it will be less than 7 years in between the two Temples) - This next Temple will be built soon - I just don't know how exactly it's going to be done, since there is no dispute that the Dome of the Rock sits right where the Jewish Temple did/and should. Somehow, that Dome will come down between now and the building of the Temple. I do think they are going to build a full-scale training version of the Temple though, and I've heard that RASHI said that he who sees this "Mock"- Temple, will see the coming of the Messiah. I have no doubt that this is the case, I just don't foresee how the Dome of the Rock will be taken down. Ben

gorak33 ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 10:04 AM

You're right about the red heifer...I didn't realize things were moving along so well. Perhaps the Dome is the meaning of this series of skirmishes in Israel. I've heard that some say the Ark of the Covenant is buried below it. Good luck trying to get you hands on it, though... That's another thing we need in 3D! An Ark...

TalmidBen ( ) posted Fri, 14 June 2002 at 3:28 PM

file_12341.jpg

lol . . .yes, perhaps somehow, through an act of violence, or perhaps Saddam Hussein will launch a missile, or something, will cause that Dome to come down. I've heard there is enough gold on it that it could feed the world 11 times over, but maybe that's an exaggeration . . .

gorak33 ( ) posted Mon, 17 June 2002 at 11:11 PM

Where'd you find that? A mighty nice rendition...

Hiram ( ) posted Tue, 18 June 2002 at 5:38 PM

"I've heard that some say the Ark of the Covenant is buried below it." Nah. Used to be though. We dug it up back around 1119 c.e. along with the other stuff and it is safely reposed on another continent. Can't have 'em blowin' up the Ark and the Grail, now can we? But don't worry, we'll give it back.
