Subject: Some new about P3dO 1.5.4

yarp ( ) posted Wed, 12 June 2002 at 11:31 PM ยท edited Sat, 16 November 2024 at 11:57 PM

Next P3dO (1.5.4) is under beta testing at SENO for severall weeks but the official release has been postponed and is still not announced. So please don't get P3dO 1.5.4 beta unless you are a P3dO fan. The reason is that I recently got my XP machine working and discovered major bugs on P3dO: 1- The lock that occured (on NT/XP machines) while runing both P3dO and Poser - and even P3dO alone. 2- Black/transparent thumbnails with bitmaps or jpegs under 32 bits - When I saw that one I was horrified. So I'm currently working on the fix for those bugs. A lock fix release is under trial by Lilwolff, and if succesfull I'll make it available this weekend. You will be able to put back AWK with P3dO. The problem with the pictures is difficult and I don't know when I'll find the solution but the saturday release will already have a partial fix. For those reasons I lost a lot of time and 1.5.4 is a real nightmare for me. But the good news is that 1.5.4 will stay free contrarily to what was announced. Yarp

Isn't Windows XP a love/hate relationship? :) Wish I could find a way to get XP to let me delete folders... I have a minor feature request -- a batch .rsr to .png conversion or a way for P3dO to convert them within subfolders.

Well XP problem is just a matter of Unicode. It's a great enhancement for Windows because it will now be able to support all non latin languages without effort... but a nightmare for nearly all existing applications because dealing with Unicode files means a lot of internal modifications. I found a middle solution ;)) Your requests are welcome. There's no batch feature planned for P3dO at the moment - intersesting, but there are many importants things to do before. The subfolder enhancement is for 1.6 (September) or 1.6.2 (December), it is a good, requested and approved idea... and it will apply to Pattern Renamer and another coming plugin (he he he a surprise ;).

Yarp Thanks for a great program, you have done a fantastic job for the Poser community. Unfortantly I have WindowsXP on my new system, so I'm sitting here holding my breath waiting for a version I can use.

Thanks Philywebrider, Try that one, http://www.senosoft.com/downloads/P3dOExplorer154upg3.zip this is the XP compatible beta ;)) This is a beta, but I've got an XP machine myself and it works fine... except for some Bitmap and Jpeg display, but it doesn't really mater for now. RSR are fine, PNG I don't know. If you get the beta I would welcome some feedback on the XP behaviour. It is supposed to be compatible with every existing plugin. Yarp

I dl your new beta and it works fine with XP and the german "umlaute" Thanks!!!!

yarp ( ) posted Thu, 13 June 2002 at 12:01 PM

Yeaaaah ;)) I'm pleased for at least 2 reasons. 1- I think we'll finally get rid of that locking problem. 2- You reported the umlaute problem for a long time and I wasn't able to fix it. Now it's done and I must confess It was pretty easy to fix... sorry ;( ... altough I nearly cried last week before I found the solution ;) Well, this is not a solid fix but good enough to avoid any lock. Technical considerations which I won't go through... I'm pleased for you too thgeisel when I saw my own P3dO on a XP/NT machine 2 weeks ago I realized how difficult it should have been for you. But really, untill I saw it myself I wasn't aware of the disaster. Yeaaaah ;))
