Subject: Upgrading from C1 to C2

This may be a studid question but Ive never let that stop me before so... When you buy the upgrade do you essentially receive the same thing (manuals, CDs, etc) as a first time buyer minus a serial number ? I decided to take the plunge and order the upgrade, it looks like they really put a lot of work into it. Being able to take advantage of dual-processors alone makes it worthwhile. Now all I have to do is upgrade my Mac. :) Cheers, Max

I upgraded from the Eovia site which required my old serial number to authorize the upgrade on-line. The upgrade then came with a new serial number to use. Mark

Max, You get the full package, and a serial number, but the serial number is keyed as an upgrade so that when you register it shows you upgraded (I think). They do require that you show proof of a previous version, though, via voice or web. ken dork.gif

That's strange, I upgraded and I never had to give my old serial number, or prove any thing. I got a new serial number, manuals, tools card and two CD's (Content and Application). I can't weight to go home and play with it. I been checking out Amapi, it's weird but very cool and fast to model. I defiantly going to learn it to it's maximum potential. To bad that it doesn't run under OS X and I guess I will have to run it under classic, what is your experience if any on this Mark?

Let us know how it works on your PowerBook (I see there is now a 500 mgz G4 processor upgrade path for the Pismos for $300 in case you need more power).

Does Carrara take advantage of the G4 chip (altivec)? It was my understanding that unless the software is specifically optimized for the G4 there would not be much of a difference between a g3/500 and a G4/500. However I dont think I will move over to OS X until I do upgrade to a G4 (ahh, a dual gig G4...). As for C1 on the pismo, I find it works smoothly except for the fact that I need to boot up with a trimmed down extension set every time I plan on using Carrara, otherwise I get a gradually increasing slowdown. I'm hoping that this will be less of an issue with C2. I'll keep you all posted. Cheers, Max
