Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
i mostly use 3d studio max, and sometimes a lot of poser for animating and posing(so much easier to use than character studio). Making a person look real isnt really based on which particular program you are using as much on other factors thouh. Having a believable texture, a large amount of character study on how the human body works and looks, and good working knowledge of the program you are using and how best to apply it. Almost any of the programs discussed on this sight can make realistic looking people. Of course, a powerful renderer and a kick@$$ 3d card dont hurt either.
It also depends a lot on what you're wanting to do. If you're making morph targets or props and clothes, etc., you need a modeling program like trueSpace, 3D Studio MAX, even Amorphium can be helpful. If you want to create photorealistic textures, you need good, high resolution photographs and a paint program like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. Or, if you're a really good artist, you can hand-paint textures for them. Sometimes the realism is achieved directly in Poser, using lighting, natural poses, good transmapped hair, etc. Some people prefer to export their figures out to other rendering programs like Bryce or Vue d'Esprit in order to integrate them into a 3D environment. Those are just a few ideas. Melanie
I was wondering if you used Poser 3 or Poser 4? Poser 4 has more capabilities for approximating reality-- like transparency for the hair and textures. Also, many of us use the Millenium figures from Daz. www.daz3d.com They look very real--depending on your tastes. And I think they still have their free or relatively cheap low res versions of Vicki available. Which is a good way to start-- if you have Poser 4. I use no other renderer than Poser-- too lazy to learn another prog. And I'm relatively satisfied. Someday I might learn Vue d'Esprit. Emily
Mike, Vicky, and Steph are the Millenium figures-- some of them. What makes them look realistic is the use of textures and transparencies for the eyelashes and hair. I might be wrong, but it doesn't look as if you are using either. Our Free Stuff has both. For all three figures. [I think there's a Stephanie trans lash, not sure though] Emily
