a color bump map is just a bump map with too much megabytes. The way a bump map works is by using a base grey as the middle level, and then darker tones appear raised , the darker the tone the higher the rise, while lighter tones appear dropped. Your color map will look the exact same as if you desaturated it first, the renderer will only notice the tones, not the shades.
I hope we don't confuse our English and Canadian friends who use the word "bum" to refer to an anatomical feature. I don't know about you but mine has never been mapped. I did, however, notice a cute cartographer following me with her eyes as I walked away one day.

It actually is neither brightness nor contrast - Poser is using the "Value" (as in HSV) which is a very unlikely and non-intuitive choice. For example, all plain primary colours (like 100% red, green or blue) are seen as 100% white. If you convert the colour template into greyscale, the primary colours will turn into some shade of grey (darker than white) and consequently change the "bump" effect - colour to grey typically uses the "Luminance" (as in HSL) and not the "Value". I wrote a set of filters for GraphicConverter (May only, sorry) which include a function to remove colour from a template without changing the "bump" effect. Thanks MartinC - I've used it. It's good.

Hey Pitklad: Don't be so hard on yourself. This from the Poser Forum FAQ: "4.) No more .bum files-- ProPack will read standard picture files directly, instead of converting them into .Bum files " As for Cricket. I don't understand the rules, but I love the colorful uniforms and somehow a game (called a test?) lasting more than one day, with breaks for cucumber sandwitches and a spot of tea has to be a wonderful experience. I JUST CAN'T FOR THE LIFE O'ME FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL IT'S ALL ABOUT.... Q

Is there a difference when you use colors in the bum maps? How can you have the best resoult?
