Subject: Conforming Hair and Figures

Anyone know why some hair conforms and some doesn't? And aside from deleting it and starting over how do you unconform a figure (hair or otherwise?) Thanks in advance!

Its a question of design and the modellers choice if it conforms or not. There is an easy way to unconform. Just conform the figure to none.

Here are some dumb questions: Just how do you know which hair will conform or parent itself to a figure? I assume conforming hair is found in the Figures/Characters Library, while "non-conforming" hair is in the hair library? Do we have any way of knowing ahead of time if hair is "applied properly" to a character? I've been shocked to notice sometimes that hair is barely on the character in question. It's also a shock when the character moves, and the hair stays behind! Some hair is in the props library? Why? I tend to forget about any hair that isn't in the hair library. Who knows how much of my hair gets unused?!

I think it is the modellers choice whether he/she wants to make a prop, hair or pose. What I do to keep track of all my stuff is to use Photoshop to make contact sheets of all images in my runtime folder. Then I just need to browse these pictures to get an overview of what I have.

Hey AWESOME idea hendrikm!! I neer thought of that but WOW. Thanks for the tip!!

I keep losing track of where some hair is. I'm sure I have hair in my Poser directory somewhere that I've forgotten even exists. And when I need one, I usually can't remember where I saw it last. Thus I wish hair was all in one place. I don't really know why it has to be in so many formats. It ends up scattered all over the place where I can't find it. It would make life much easier if it could all be found in the Hair library. Also, I've found that most hair in the Hair library is already parented to the head, but there are a few that are not, so they stay behind when you move the character. Is there a way to resave the offending hair piece and make it automatically parent to the head? Does it work the same in the Hair library as a Smart Prop does in the Props libary? It would sure cure a lot of headaches. Melanie

OK, I'm all for "artistic choice" (an artist making a choice of where to put the hair). I wonder why an artist would choose one place or type of installation over another. Are there certain benefits to "character" hair rather than "hair hair," or "prop hair?!"

Maybe we should label uncomforming hair "wigs". JV ;o)

Here's MY stupid question....if you put a "hair prop" in the HAIR directory, won't it still work if you go there and try to bring it in? Well...I SAID it was a stupid question...:) Beav

Probably a prop in the hair folder wont work... props are *.pp2 files, while hair is a *.hr2 file.

If a prop is parented to the head (it doesn't have to be hair) you can change the extension and put it in the hair folder. Anyway, prop or conforming figure? I don't know about the other guys making hair, but to me the choice is real simple- if it gets close enogh to the shoulders to touch when the figure is posed normally it should be a true conforming figure. I mean "true", unlike the stock P4 conforming hair which is more-or-less a prop that has joints, not really conforming. My hair works just like clothing, move the shoulder forward and the hair adjusts. It isn't perfect, but it works for 90% of the poses without modification. My Las Vegas hair works like that, as will the San Fran hair when the update comes out this week (the existing one has a chest part, I added the collars, too), I'm going to have a update for the Hollywood hair that has a conforming model too, for the longer version. The bobbed hair doesn't need it.

WOW, thanks for the explanation Jim! Now I can look over my hair collection, and future purchases, and see just which ones to use or buy.
