Subject: has anyone ever used the objaction mover?

Hi,has anyone ever used the objaction mover? And if so how did they get the thing to work? I got it,but I can't get the stupid thing to work for me and several of the characters that I have in poser need the mover to work properly. Also when using poser, I will get messages saying that certain files can't open for one thing or another and then I get a message saying that I am out of memory, and that I should allocate more memory to poser. Any idea on how to do that? I have a 60 gig hard drive, 192 RAM, Win98, and 566 MHz system.

Did you use the readme that came with objaction mover? YOu need to read it then ask your question if it still isn't clear. The seed file is whatever the readme for your file is asking for. The object. Say a dress for vickie and it needs the dress from the daz clothing subdirectory in geometries. Also sure to check decode. The readme that comes with it explains it very well, but if you need help let me know specifically what happens so I can help you though it. Marque

Also if you download something, say a texture, that was created for an object, say a clothing item or character say Vickie, that you don't have, it will give an error. Write down the error so you know where to look as it tells you what it wants and where it is. Sometimes stuffage gets installed in the wrong place and you just have to do a search for it and put it where it belongs. Happens more on older stuff. Especially if it's from the time that Daz was installing items to the Curious Labs folder. Marque

The out-of-memory message seems to be a side effect of the geometry not being found. It does not seem to have anything to do with actually being out of memory. Lynn Grant Castle Development Group

Yes, that's what I meant in my last post, if he writes down the info he can do a search for the obj and if he has installed he can then move it to where Poser is looking for it. Marque

Yes, the 'Out-Of-Memory' error is Poser's default error, it seems. :) By and large, most freebies come with ReadMe's to tell you where all of their parts go. It isn't always where you might expect, so ReadMe's are always worth a read through-- and they also generally contain licensing information, which can be important.

download Kozaburo's "remapped male hair 1" - I think thats what he calls it. Besides some getting some neat hairs, he tells you how to use objaction mover. If he wanted to, Kozaburo could write tutorials for a living - it's that good.

The thing that confuses me about objaction mover is that we rarely seem to need it even if we get an item that requires a previous version of a commercial item. I download a ton of stuff, and much of it requires something like Mike's Clothing pack, etc. I rarely need to use objaction mover... probably every few months at best. It makes me wonder if objaction mover is really needed at all?! And why some people insist it's needed, while most do not. These people are all "legal people" from what I can see.

Yes, I've used Mover. In fact I wrote it. I'm sorry you think it's a stupid thing, but ........ As Marque says, read the readme. Anybody who has read the readme file will have my e-mail address and queries sent to me get answered pretty quickly - usually the same day. However, if you've read the readme then you probably don't need to e-mail me. Re ronknights' point about whether you need it or not, it all depends on whether the file includes copyright geometry and whether the person providing the file wants to stay on the right side of the law or not. If a file you are downloading needs Mike's clothing pack because it's just a morph (which is usually the case) or because it needs to be attached to another piece of clothing, eg a new cuff for a jacket then you don't need Mover. You need Mike's clothing pack because you can't morph it if you haven't got it, or because the cuff is no use without a jacket to add it to. Incidentally, I don't have Mike's clothing pack so I'm making this up as as I go along and I assume there is a jacket that you could add a new cuff to. If on the other hand the file that you download is a complete modified jacket with new cuff as one single file, then it includes Daz copyright geometry and the person who created the modification needs to protect himself from being sued by Daz. You, at the receiving end, need to use Mover to decode the PCF and you can only do this if you have a copy of the original jacket (or whatever). If the person posting the modified geometry chooses not to use Mover (or Maconverter for Mac users) then you don't need to use it to decode the file because it's not a pcf file. The sender does so at his own risk though. Incidentally, this doesn't apply just to Daz geometry, but any copyright geometry. And I'm not a legal person, I'm an engineer. I hope all that's clear, but if not send me an e-mail and I'll try to explain in more detail. maz@sandylodge.demon.co.uk

Maz: Although there are probably other apps that do the same thing, I appreciate having something as simple to use as mover. Thank you. -bikermouse

Maz,

I am also grateful for Mover. It makes a lot of stuff available that wouldn't be otherwise. And you have made it available for free. You can't beat the price.

Once you use it a few times it's easy to use. Those that say "it's not needed at all" don't understand what it does.

I'm trying to use the mover to decode a file needed for "EVE by Arduino"... The seed file is the P4NudeWom.obj file... I just can't convert it!There's an error box that pops-up that tells me the "file access is denied". Someone help me...pleaseeee

Maz ( ) posted Tue, 18 June 2002 at 6:55 AM

It's probably because the file is read-only. Even though Mover doesn't write to the seed file it just won't work if it's read only. Just reset the file attributes and it should be OK.

dl the malehair5 or male hair1 at the site link provided here.(bottom right of the page.) read the included readme. you will then know what you need to know about mover.(BTW - this is Kozaburo's site. he does the best hair.) you will also have a great new set of new hair textures to use on those old plastic looking male hairs. - bikermouse

Maz: Sorry about the crossthread. Almost thought to sugguest that might be the case but forgot due to a distraction. When I was learning C I had more problems with read accesses, so the problem is familiar to me, but then I would have been guessing in this case. Glad you stepped in.

Thanks MAZ... It worked! Awesome
