HELP! I just got Poser4 this very day. I have been collecting figures & props for several weeks, only to find that Poser will not load them. The majority of the figures are in Cr2, rsr and pcf format, with a few in BUM and PHI. Poser4 figures and obj models load just fine, but the others do not. All of the figures were downloaded from websites which listed them as Poser characters, etc. I must be doing something wrong, but what? Wayne

Duester, The .pcf files are encoded .obj files which you can decode by getting Maz's Objaction Mover from the free stuff section you see to the right in the bar under Features. Go there and then go to the Utilities section. Once you get that, you can decode and use the Poser figures that have been stored in .pcf format providing you have the original "seed" .obj file that the figure is based upon. Most of the figures are based upon the P4Nude Male or P4Nude Female file you will find under your Poser main file under Runtime/Geometries. These are the "seed" files. Maz's Objaction Mover is fairly self explanatory and simple to use. (Thanks again, Maz.) Richard Kane

You might know already, but since you seem to be new to Poser,... just in case: If you are on Mac, you must convert the files in order to get Poser to work with them, which can be done with the Poser Maconverter tool from FreeStuff/Utilities. On both platforms, the files must also be placed to certain locations inside the Runtime folder. There is another Mac tool which does it for you (Macinstaller), otherwise look into your manual, or look around here - it is explained in a lot of threads. Otherwise, just let us know here, and sure someone will explain it... Welcome to Poser! :-)

Fistly, welcome to the Poser forum. This is a fairly common problem when you're new to poser so, take a deep breath and here goes OBJ files usually go into the geometries file. They are sometimes listed with an RSR (with exactly the same name) which also goes into the geometry folder. CR2 files (and identically named RSR files) go into library/characters/any folder. HR2 files go into libraries/hair/any folder FC2 files go into libraries/face/any folder HD2 files go into libraries/hand/any folder LT2 files go into libraries/light/light sets PZ2 files go into libraries/pose/any folder PP2 files go into libraries/props/any folder Hope this helps Paul

Thanks Guys...keep 'em coming..I need all the help I can get. I understand what you are telling me, but can't find out how to do it. The manual does not seem to tell how to get things from outside Poser4 into the various folders...or is it me missing the point? Wayne

LoboUK ( ) posted Sat, 19 February 2000 at 2:45 PM

Everything has to be inside the Poser folder (at least for the moment) except textures. Unzip/unpack your downloads either directly into the folders (using the guide above or Stormrage's excellent tutorial) or copy them into the folders from whereever they are now. Paul

To move files from outside of Poser do this.. Open the zip file and extract the files from it. Now open my computer on your harddrive.. In another window open the folder where you unzipped the files and move the files physically into place by either right clicking and choosing cut and then pasting them into the appropriate folders in your poser program or dragging and dropping. The tutorial on file types is at http://jupiter.spaceports.com/~omnitut/poser/files.zip for the PDF file or at http://jupiter.spaceports.com/~omnitut/poser/files/files.html for a html file. Hope this helps. Stormrage

duester, This seems to be one of the big hurdles to get over. It flat drove me crazy. The tutorial posted (and done by) Stormrage above is excellent. Once you get this figured out then this part will be really understandable for you from then on G. Diane B

Gadzooks! It appears that I have a bit of work to do. I have unzipped all of my downloaded files to 2 FULL 120Mb disks! Now it appears as though I'll have to move them one at a time to Poser's files....or...can they be moved as folders containing more than one file?? Hey! You all have helped a lot. I'm a 54 year-old computer moron who's stumbling with what seems to be a complex program. Thanks for your help, but don't stop now! Wayne

Ikes... Ummmm okay.. Geometry files.. such as obj have to go in specific folders.. Like my outfit files.. the weird outfits.. the obj has to go in Runtime:Geometries:storm. Other people have different files..as to where they go. if you aren't sure as to where a certain obj goes.. open the CR2's in Notepad and read the line that says Runtime:Geometries: FOLDER NAME The cr2's and corresponding rsr's go into the figure's library. The pp2 into props and so forth (read my tutorial for help on that) You can move them by folder but you have to make sure that the files are in the right place.. hope this helps Storm

About the folder names in Runtime/Geometry. That is REAL important. They must be EXACTLY the way the readme tells you--if there are no spaces in the folder title--then don't put any in. If something is capitalized--then capitalize it. I can't stress this enuf--I don't know if you read the thread Rita started about bushi's baby clothes. It turns out she did everything bushi said to do in his readme EXCEPT she had put a space in between the words. The cr2 couldn't 'point' to the right geometry file-it was asking for BabyShirt1 and Rita had titled the folder Baby Shirt1--just not the same. You just have to create new folders, title them exactly the way the readme says and place them in Runtime/Geometry (your .obj files go in there) and put the rest of the files as Storm says--and it will work out right. YOW! You-all have been a great help! Things are up & running & I'm actually starting to have fun. Yessssssss. A few minor problems, one of which is: a few characters installed but won't load due to "out of memory". I just upgraded to 128M of RAM...what's up here? I may be out of memory, but my computer shouldn't be! Thanks again, Wayne

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2000 at 11:40 AM

Poser gives an "Out of Memory" error as a general error. You really aren't out of memory. I haven't had one in a while, so I can't remember what I did to get around it. You might have to go as far as closing Poser and re-opening.

Stormrage ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2000 at 11:52 AM

check the cr2 on the character and make sure the obj is in the right geometries folder.. I get this error when I try to load a custom made prop or figure and I have directed the path to the wrong folder...
