Subject: nVidia detonator drivers 29.42

Hi all Just upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers and now OpenGL is screwed in Vue (version 4.06). I noticed from the archives that this seems to be a common problem with these drivers! I had to upgrade so that some Java applets would display properly (which works!), but then Vue in OpenGL didn't work! In OpenGL mode the views come up as grey shade regions and no surface shading of models as before. Anyway, I had to disable OpenGL to work with Vue, a small detail but it seems to be a constant problem with Vue not being totally compliant with the different varieties of the display drivers etc. Something for the bods at e-onsoftware to look at - again! How should this be reported to the software people, should I do a screen copy to show the results with the latest drivers? Lester

That's not necessary. I mean no need to write to e-onsoftware for this. They are aware for it already. Some Nvidea cards don't support Vue's OpenGL. Just work without it and wait for the next Vue update. Maybe a user of the same card has a solution?? Guitta

Well I didn't use opengl in the past because I felt it was slower, but I do have the 29.42 and turned it on to test it. You are right, smooth and flat shading in the view ports no longers works. Only wireframe or less works in opengl mode. So back to non opengl for me. :)

That's weird. The issue you described has been haunting me for each and every Detonator release PRIOR to 29.42. Only with the latest drivers, Vue's OpenGL renderer works properly on my system--provided you disable the background rendering thread in Vue's options. GF3 classic, Win98SE, DX8.1 ta, -Sascha.rb

I no longer use OpenGL in Vue as it totaly sucks at the moment. I had a long e-mail exchange with e-on about the matter. First the said i should complain to NVidia but how much does anyone thing NVidia cares about one single application not working. I have lots of OpenGL apps an Vue is the only one that gives me any trouble. In the last mail they told me that they are working with NVidia to solv the problem. That is what I wanted to hear as I think they have a much better chance to solve this than I as a single user with a single none working application have as I could not even find an e-mail adress to NVidia as they refere to the card builder witch in my case is ASUS and I have still not got an answer after 2 moths. I just have to hope I have been given the truth from e-on and that it's not just a way to get rid of me ;) ). Vue rocks even whithout OpenGL but I won't pay for an upgrade unless the OpenGL problem is fixed or they add particles or they add bones or why not all of them ;)
