Subject: Mapping digital terrain data on a sphere

Hi I have high-resolution digital elevation data of Mars that I want to map on a sphere and merged with a visual image of the surface from NASA, but using the elevation model as a bump map merely gives the illusion of height. Obviously it's fine for distant views, but if I wanted to say do a close limb-view of Olympus Mons it doesn't work and is just flat, no matter how much exaggeration one applies! Perhaps this is something to go into a wish list? If anyone has ideas on this I'd be interested to know! Loading parts of the elevation model as a terrain works fine as a small rectangular area, but not in spherical coordinates. Thanks Lester

Bumps on speres are just "illusions". But you may create a pseudo sphere as a symmetrical terrain in the terrain editor and then use your map and bump map on it. See the User guide (symmetrical terrains). Guitta
