VIDandCGI ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 12:49 PM

Is this going to be a freebie?

If he raises his arms, he's a goner.

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 1:18 PM

This really doesn't belong here in the Poser forum... this should be in the Showcase Forum.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

VIDandCGI ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 1:26 PM

Thats why was asking if its a freebie Valandar..if its a freebie then its ok to be here and even if its not, Atom I know is a fairly new merchant from prev. posts and should maybe given a little slack. The Post that concerned me was a few down as this is an out and out ad and should be moved straight away.

ronknights ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 1:40 PM

This looks fantastic. Now is Valandar a moderator?!

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:08 PM

Nope. If I was a mod, I would have moved it. According to what I understand of his post in the Showcase Forum, this will be a MP item, like his last one. If I am not allowed to post ads for my products in here, and I follow the rules here, other people should, too.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

ivyroses ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:26 PM

FYI Ron: I saw this thread then asked Valandar if he thought that this looked like an ad as well. After seeing it in the product showcase as well. I believe it is an ad. As a merchant we have rules to follow. One of them is ads aren't welcome in this forum. We dont make the rules. These rules were made because people in the community felt the ads in the forum were excessive. The same thing goes with the poser gallery. Some of my renders are artistic enough that they could be placed in the poser gallery. Since I used items that were going to be released to the store (and weren't available) they were posed in the product showcase. If you dont like the rules you are more than welcome to voice your opinion in the forum news forum.

Pamola ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:52 PM

Clarification needed. Does this rule apply to any and all merchant ads (as a general rule), or merchants who sell in the MP only? Pamola

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:54 PM

That's the thing, the rule is entirely, and clearly, ambiguous. I'm still confuzzled myself. All I -DO- know is that as a MP Vendor here at Renderosity, I can only put ads for my products in the Showcase Forum. Any post in this forum advertising a product will get moved faster than an OT post.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

VIDandCGI ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 2:56 PM

Ron why get so negative about the fact that others (in this case Valander - and I know where he is coming from as a merchant myself) feel that if there are rules that are in place, that they should be followed. I myself was asking Atom if it was a freebie first to check 1st, then was going to say if it was a MP product that maybe in future he should post to the Product showcase. The reason being Ron that Merchants arent allowed to post products here in the forum and would not be fair to other merchants if some flaunt the rules. As I pointed out Atom is a fairly new merchant so I dont think this was a case of him flaunting the rules, just a small mistake.

atom123 ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 3:09 PM

my goodness! yea dudes cut a guy some slack!!!!! i had absolutely no idea, and am sooooooooo sorry. i really didnt know. i apologize 4 my ignorance, and promise it will never happen again. however, yall couldve just sent an email or something.... i dont think it was necessary 2 have this "discussion" here...... again i apologize........... NO HES NOT FREE!!!

c1rcle ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 3:17 PM

I don't think anyone was trying to give you a hard time atom, what you posted didn't strike me 100% as an ad, anyway he's not for sale yet so it can't be an ad until he's posted for sale surely? Rob

atom123 ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 3:27 PM

it is an ad alright. i was trying 2 give a sneak peek 2 the poser users out there is all. i wont try 2 lie about that. i just didnt know about this "rule".......

Blackhearted ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 3:50 PM

jesus people can we not act like fucking kids and police the poser forum for ads? the last person i know who did that was bebop, and what a hypocrite he was - considering he was also a merchant. as fellow merchants, we should stick together and do something to change this growing anti-merchant sentiment and product showcase segregation, rather than fuel it by pointing fingers at each other and adopting a gestapo attitude.

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 4:00 PM

I can see both sides of this issue.. on one hand, why do some merchants get away with this and others don't? On the other hand, I figure if you can get away with it, more power to ya. Escape from the Anti-Ad Gestapo. ;)

ronknights ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 4:33 PM

Hey, folks, back off, ok? I made a simple statement admiring the outfit, and asked if Valandar is a moderator? That's all! I'd already seen one other post in which Valandar said the same thing. It was a natural question. I never made a comment about the rules, or about the fact that Valandar was acting like a moderator. *** I find the negative or harsh reactions to my two sentences rather puzzling. In the past, I've been accused of "playing monitor, or spokesman" for Renderosity. I've worked very hard to moderate my behavior in that regard. Now comes Valandar and "the rules for merchants." Whoopie. Yes, the rules are nice. I even go to the proper showcase sometimes to look for new merchant stuff. I am not a merchant myself, so I don't need a lecture on "follow the rules or leave." Geesh. Message671411.jpg

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 4:45 PM

Waitaminute... what I had said in the other post was a heartfelt plea for people not to ignore the Showcase Forum. As for what happened, I just made a comment. Yes, I was a bit abrupt, and should have couched it in more of a "Umm, just as a FYI, ads are supposed to be in the Showcase, for future information" type of phrasing. Next thing I know, I'm being asked if I'm a moderator, then being accused of being forum gestapo. Geez. Never mind, I'm signing off of Rosity for a few hours for dinner. Seey'all in a few.

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 4:46 PM

I was also complainig about the rule, itself... look at post #12. I was saying that if I had posted an ad it would have gotten moved quickly.

Kiera ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:01 PM

Hey, I didn't call you the gestapo. ;) glares at the evil TOS-Monster

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:17 PM

Okay, sowwy... I was slightly uptight, had a trying day with the eldest member of our household, trying to explain that light doesn't pass through solid, opaque walls (at least not any visible frequency n any amount perceptible to the naked eye, for those who might quibble)... Peace, you two. And even you, Ron.

Blackhearted ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:23 PM

no worries val :)

Hooray for Silly!!!! iiiiiiiiiiiiiii love it ;)

ronknights ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:37 PM

Valandar, I've always been a great fan of your work. (SO I'll ignore that potentially snide comment.) Now what was this about light passing through walls?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:38 PM

ok ok ok can we all just hold hands and sing kumbaya now?

Valandar ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 10:51 PM

Ron: My grandfather has Altzheimer's, and swore up and down that he could see my bedroom light at night, even though a) the door is closed, b) there are no less than three walls and a twisty hallway in the way, and c) the light is usually off. He's pretty much 75% of the reason I live here now. Mom's got her own medical problems, and can't take care of him herself. Ergo. I stay at home and take care of them, and make what little I can scratch by with on here and with a few other projects. Which is one reason I wish to GAWD they'd relax the rule about the Poser Forum... at least let us SAY something dadblastit... no true ads, but just a heads up that "Hey, check this thread in the Showcase Forum..." with like a special tag or something...

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

c1rcle ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 6:28 AM

damn Valandar I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, my uncle had it as well, he used to get in such a state when he couldn't find his way home, it was heart breaking to see him like that, hang in there ok, thinking of you. Rob

ronknights ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 6:53 AM

Valandar, you have my sympathies concerning your current situation. I recently lost a brother-in-law due to cancer. My wife spent two weeks with him and his wife... to help them deal with the impending end. That left me alone in this house for two weeks. This has to be one of the hardest losses to cope with. In some ways, you've already lost your grandfather, but the inevitable loss will still hurt. As for "the rules," if you look around, you'll see that at least one major vendor apparently is able to get around them without being blatant. No one has voiced any challenges, including me. Think about that.

Forum_Gestapo ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 4:23 AM

You are all doomed! You have summoned my attention to this thread, and now I shall destroy you all. Muahahahaahahaaaaaaaa!!!!! FYI: Valandar is not me. If he was me, I would tell you so, and then ban you for insubordination and not following the rules I have laid out which will propel me to glory and world dominion! Tremble in fear! Cheers, Net_Police

Forum_Gestapo ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 4:24 AM

By the way, atom... Product looks great. You will serve me well when the revolution comes.
