Subject: Hair Transparency maps

Does anyone have any good advice as to how to make convincing looking transparency maps for hair? I have been playing around with it for a few days now (hmm...guess that still holds me in the newbie catagory for this)...and generally they look ok, but there is a blotchyness to them rather than a nice definition to the hair strands. Also the hair ends look more like they have been cut with a dull knife rater than a nice clean cut (which I have also noticed with alot of the trans maps I downloaded too). Rawn

have you checked out the hair at digital babes? kozaburo has done amazing things with hair and his transparencies are superb, he's got a great tutorial there too for those who want to try it themselves, I can't think of a better place to start. Good luck & can we see the results please. Rob

Ya know...I never saw that tutorial there....it looks good, I will have to give it a shot when I get home :) Thanx! (if I can figure out how to post the results...sure I will post them)

it's hidden away on the downloads page, it's the first thumbnail on the left "transmapped hair" Rob

i found a tutorial once that gave me some good ideas, i forget where it was though. But i have used it ever since. I put a thin white curtain over a table and had a female friend of mine lay her head on the edge of the table with her hair going down the curtain. I then put a bright light behind the curtain and took a picture of her hair from the other side. This gave me an incredibly realistic looking transmap that i have been able to edit and apply to nearly every hair prop i have used since.
