Subject: About the San Francisco hair update

Jim Burton ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 10:38 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 3:05 AM

Aparently DAZ is going to didtribute the San Francisco Mk II hair update by emailing people who bought it, and many got the notice Friday, but there was some kind of problem with the link. Yeah, I'm confused too, but I trust this will be all straightened out Monday. Anyway, what is in the free upgrade? - a better conforming CR2, now with collar parts (like the Las Vegas Hair), 4 new morphs (plus I removed 4 that are no longer needed with the new parts), a marginally-usefull new "tail" part to bend the back of the hair, and two new colors, Platinum Blonde and Flame. New purchasers get the Mk II version automatically. There is an update for the Hollywood hair in the works, too.

I didn't get any update notice and I bought the SF hair. :O( I've been having trouble with my mail. I hope it got to me.

I got the email Friday and was able to dl with no problem, Jim. Maybe the link problem was fixed later in the day? Now, I did have all sorts of problems getting Questor's free weapons from the site today. I have a feeling that with the combination of the gorilla and these freebies, the site is being overloaded. But I was able to get the SF update with no problems. Take care and be well. casamerica

I've not been able to download it yet. I keep getting a page not found error. Hopefully it will be fixed Monday :) Pendy

I haven't gotten the message yet, but look forward to the update (your stuff is some of my favorites!) It's good to see people updating their offerings, rather than letting them stagnate. eric

I just bought this Friday also. I have a question. I noticed i do have the platinum blond and flame hair with this. Does this mean that I don't need the update?

rasputina ( ) posted Sun, 23 June 2002 at 9:28 AM

hmm, no email for me either. :( the flame looks gorgeous though on the images!

I went to the daz site to the sanfran purchase area, it was for sale for 13.00 or so, I was confused because I thought the update was free to owners of the hair. I was emailed a usename and password but I didn't see a method of using them to get a free update, just the standard method of purchasing from daz. Have I been staying up too late again, or is there a solution to my problem.?

Opps, my last reply didn't make it... It will be free to preveious purchasers, I just emailed them about linking it from the store page, too. The $13 price is for the whole deal. Anyway, the new files went up sometime Friday, if you bought it then and have a "flame color" you have it. Incidently, here is the new Platinum blonde texture on Cake1's Lucie.

Hi Jim, Still no email or link from the DAZ page. Can you give us an update, or is it just me missing something?

Mazak ( ) posted Tue, 25 June 2002 at 3:38 PM

DAZ send me the update E-mail. The new hair works fine now. Thank you Jim :-) Mazak

Your welcome!- The update should be on the hair page shortly, too, I understand.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 1:19 PM

I have the update but for some reason it doesn't seem to work. The figure loads but it is just a blank figure circle .. I thought it may have been a weird transmap thing but it wasn't and the obj points in the right place .. Not sure.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 3:53 PM

Does it load by itself? I've seen Win 98 do this kind of stuff when the memory gets loaded up. Both CR2s (the new and the ond) should be using the same OBJ file, incidently.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 4:25 PM

Tried restarting the computer and then poser and does the same thing .. Have a gig of ram or so on my Mac. Not sure why the new CR2 doesn't work either. Also tried it with the version from ziza or whatever her name is ( I am at work) and it worked fine. The pose and transmaps transfer over well but I just don't get the added benefits of the new joints and all.

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 4:39 PM

Not sure if this could cause this sort of problem, but could the rsr file be corrupted? (the one associated with the geometry) Of course, this could only occur in Poser 4, and also would require that Ziza points to a different obj file than the standard cr2 does. eric

Jim Burton ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 6:52 PM

Oh, a Mac... Yeah, I have trouble with it on mine too, I think there may be too many morphs for some states of grace. Where do you have your memory set? (PC GUYS, IGNORE THIS PART!) I think DAZ was reccomending 150,000 and 300,000, that seemed to help a little (I have 256 Mb physical memory in my G3), I can very seldom get Vickie II to load in my Mac, incidently. If that doesn't work I could stip out some of he less usefull morphs in another CR2, and you could try it, at least. eric- I don't think Mac's actually use RSR files, of either kind.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 9:02 PM

I have it set to 900,000 so that shouldn't be a problem. And I can get V2 with 2 of the morphing outfits (same number of morphs minus the face) in there no problem. Never really tried to kill it with more but it should be cool. And that might work to try it ...I might even be able to transfer the morphs over .. It seemed to have all of the material zones properly set up but there was no body parts to mess with. And the Mac just uses the rsr to get the icon but that wasn't there in this case :)

O.K., send me your email address and I'll make you up a San-Francisco Mk II lite CR2 to try. I'm at burtonj@bucks.edu
