Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 2:22 am)
Thanks, Leather-guy. I've just had a quick look at Ron's (V Good) tutorial. But after looking at it, it still seems as if Tailor is only much use if you already know what morphs have been changed. I'm guessing that perhaps it's useful for creating a wardrobe for custom characters you've created yourself, but not so good for dressing morphed figures you've bought - which is what I wanted it for. And regardless of the merits of the program, I think it should have been given better documentation. Sorry, guys - I know a lot of you love this product but it's perhaps the first DAZ purchase I really regret. Maybe I just need to spend more time working with it. John
Have you closely read the Ki package? There are detailed instructions on how to fit her using scaling. I've tried to use Tailor for scaling fits before and it doesn't work. Dark Whispers girls need scaling to fit things, Tailor did nothing right for them. Read the zip again, John, on Ki. Before the major zip there are several helpful read mes. One of them is on fitting or clothing Ki. Emily
Hi, Emily. yeah, I read the readme on clothing Ki and tried that scaling process (in the correct order) on Ki before purchasing Tailor, but it still seemed to leave some bits of the clothing way too big and other bits inside her body. I'll have another go, in case I mixed up an 'x' and a 'y' somewhere, but I don't think I did. :) John
You may be able to choose the body part for Ki, then spawn a morph target, then UNSCALE her and move the new morph target to 1.0 Name all the morph targets "Ki" or some such then save the character. Now, go into Tailor... select all the "Ki" morphs and generate the same morph in the clothing. I haven't actually tried it... but the theory is sound... at least... the voices in my head tell me it is!
I usually save the scaling info from a custom character to a pose file file (you can use the new version of Mat Pose Edit to do this. Load up your figure, include posing and morph info when it asks, go to the second tab, click the buttons to delete the translation and rotation channels and if desired morphs, but NOT scaling, go to the third tab, do not export material options, then save as a pose). I can then apply the scaling pose to an item of clothing after it's been conformed, and I'm off and running. (Well, many people say I'm always a bit off, but you know what I mean.)
Ron (or anyone), maybe my problem is that what I thought the program would do and what it's intended to do are two different things. Your tutorial was a good help but tends to make me think that this is the case. I can see how Tailor might be useful for clothing characters I'd created myself, say if I created a superhero by setting the superhero body morph. (Though if I'd done that, since I have the morphing clothes, wouldn't it be easier for me to just select the corresponding morph on the clothes when I put them on the figure, without needing this program?) What I wanted the program to do is to adjust clothes to fit some of the morph-customised Vicki variants I've bought here and elsewhere. But with those, I don't know what morphs have been adjusted or how much, hence I don't know which to chose in Tailor. Probably my fault for having a pre-conceived idea... I'd imagined that when I imported a figure, Tailor would check it against the standard Vicki to see what had changed, then help me apply those changes to the imported garment. Now that would be a program worth having - does anyone know if such a thing exists? :) John
I'm not sure your expectations are wrong. I just used an example because I didn't clearly understand what you wanted. You don't need to know how much morphs have been adjusted. You just select the morphs and then let Tailor do the work. I'm darned near delirous from a cold. Have you tried contacting the person who made the characters to see if they could offer some assistance or insight?
one thing does the character you are using have a "named Morph" near the top, i ask this because i used the Sasha model i think from Handspanstudios and it has a morph called Sasha on the body parts. All i had to do was load Sasha into Tailor, load a clothing item, look for Sasha in the morph lists tick it and then transfer. This works quite well for thos models that have character named morphs, all i can sugest is have a look. It is a nice programme by the way, i've just created my first character changing different body morphs i then created one body morph for each body part then used the Tailor to help with the clothing, i don't think i would have been able to do the clothing without it because of all the dials had little tweeks here and there. David
Thanks again to everyone who's tried to help, but I think I'm going to drop out of this discussion until I can come back with more intelligent questions and less hatred for the program. I've had such a *&^%ing frustrating afternoon with this program that I'm in definite danger of bad-mouthing it unfairly. I haven't heard anyone else say a bad word about Tailor, and (gritting my teeth and trying to be fair), I'm pretty sure (ok, certain) that the problem is with my lack of comprehension, not the program's faults. I've been experimenting by making tini changes to vicki (like just changing breast size with one single dial) then trying to use the program to make her bikini top fit, and I can't even get that to work. When I get the new morph target back in Poser and set it to one, I'm getting wild distortions. Like I say, my lack of know-how, rather than the program's limitiations. It's a long time since a piece of software made me feel like such a total moron. I don't think I'm that stupid though, and however good the program may or may not be, I still think the documentation stinks. Thanks again guys, and please excuse the grumpy jaundiced tone!! John
And the question is, can anyone offer a clue why my version of Tailor doesn't work with Victoria 2? In an attempt to simplfy things, I started experimenting with Posette instead of Vicki. And the program worked like a dream. It does everything it claims. I can even see the re-shaped Posette in the Tailor window, complete with her new shape, see the new clothing, check it fits perfectly, and export it to Poser where everything is still perfect. (I've learned in the process that scaling doesn't count as a morph, and isn't transported) But with Victoria it's a different story. No matter what shape of Vicki I import, the multi-coloured Vicki in the Tailor window remains her unchanged self, and all my aforementioned whines about the program still apply. It just plain doesn't work. This is driving me nuts. Can anyone offer any clue what's causing the problem? Thanks, John
Another piece of the jigsaw... If you use, say, the chest morph to change both Vicki's breasts at once, the new breast sizes don't transfer across to Tailor. Only morphs for each individual breast will transfer. I presume that the figures I've been trying to import into Tailor use these sort of multi-morphs (or whatever the proper name is!) plus some re-scaling, which also doesn't import. So their changes are pretty much invisible to Tailor, which I why I thought the figure in Tailor was an unchanged Vicki. Maybe some later version will address the 'multi-morph' and scaling issues... Until then... well, I'm ready to stop cursing the program, and I no longer totally regret buying it. I can see that within its own narrow limits it does what it claims. Though I'm still a bit peeved that there wasnt' a decent helpfile or even readme that could have saved me from wasting a day figuring all this stuff out... (if my analysis of the problem is wrong or unfair to Tailor, please jump in and point it out!) John
thats just plain weird i've not had a problem with Vicky 2, hmmmm, try this: alter the figure the way you want jotting down a piece of paper (old fashioned i know but pieces of blank paper are a must with poser even if its for somthing to throw across the room) the dials and settings you used. save this to your figure liabray as whatever, open Tailor load This figure into Tailor click onto the Morphs dropdown click onto Body-set dials as in Cr2. ive just tried this on my own figure and it shows the altered state. load your dress in right, taking your piece of paper go to the first on your list and pick the coresponding morph on your figure. create the morph transfer now i think it will ask at some stage if you want to reset the cloths morphs to 0 or use the Cr2 setting, i always use the Cr2 setting in Poser load your figure from your liabrey, load the clothing, conform it and see what happens. this still might need a bit of tweeking David
Not sure if this will help, but what I do is - let's say I want to modify some trousers for either a Mike character that I bought or I modified myself. I load the trousers into poser and then click on each part of the trousers and note what body parts are covered by them. Then I go to the Tailor and load up my modified Mike and the trousers and transfer all the morphs the body parts I just wrote down. I don't worry about whether they've been changed or not. I just transfer them all. Seems to work for me. Kevin
Something is wrong if you can't use Tailor with Vicky 2. Do you have Tailor 1.1?! The old version of Tailor used to squack a lot about nogen morphs or something. We just ignored the errors, and Tailor worked just fine. This new version doesn't give those error messages and works just fine. There is no need to mark down what body parts are covered by the clothes. You tell Tailor to select all morphs with a given name. Tailor finds the morphs and reports to you. You can read all that in both my tutorials. John, maybe it is time to take a break. Something is not right here.. Have you tried talking to Codetwister? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Tailor?

OK, call me stoopid, but I just can't work this program out... I've just bought Tailor 1.1, based on all the good stuff I've read about it here. But durned if I can figure out how the thing works. I've read through the help file, and I've tried to follow the build-in wizard, and can't say I've found either of them terribly clear. From the advertising blurb, I assumed (perhaps naively) that all I'd have to do is: 1. Load the character. 2. Load the garment. 3. Click something. And all would be well. Well, perhaps not that simple, but you know what I mean. But from the wizard, it seems that I have to manually select all the morphs I want transferred to the garment. Apart from the fact that this seems like a lot more work than the program's ad suggests, what if I don't KNOW exactly which ones I want to transfer? I mean, I've bought several customised Vickis here, but I don't know exactly what morphs their creators have messed with. Specifically, I'm working with the 'Ki' figure, and trying to get Vic's morphing clothes to fit her. Should I just select 'everything', if I can find a way to do that? (So far, I haven't found it) I'm not criticising the program (though I am somewhat critical of the 'documentation', and perhaps its ads). I'd just be grateful if someone could give me a tip or two on how to actually start using it! John
