Subject: Cameras and Scaling Objects, Help!

Tuesday ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 12:25 PM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 3:49 PM

Is it possible to link a camera position to an object so that when you resize the object, the camera stays in the same relative position?

Or is there another way?

I've tried everything I can think off and am getting nowhere!

Thanks for looking

Alex

When you use the "point at" property I think it uses the center origin as a reference.

When you rescale an object the origin moves. Is that what you mean?

Um, I'm not sure.

Here's an example, I've got my camera position saved in the library, it is a view of the top floor of the inside of a building model, If I resize the building by say 50%, when I load the camera, it is beneath the floor. I'm looking for a way to arrange the camera so it will load with the same view of the second floor even though the model has been re-scaled.

I'm not even sure if this is possible! but I really hope it is.

I hope this has made it clearer

Alex

You might try scaling the camera too (the scale dial in the camera parameter dials). Just a guess.

Here's a thought. Why not just change the focal length on the camera ? oops Bobasaur already said that. try using the above and set the rotation xyz;s as follows: obj x 0 y 0 z 0 camera at cardinal xyz's either (0 90 180 270) = (N E S W)

scaling the camera doesn't seem to work, and I can't get the rotation to work either, I think I will just have to resort to using the Dolly dials to get around.

Thanks for your help,

Alex

You got my curiosity up - If I figure it out I'll post back.

yeah, this is a weird one, nothing obvious seems to work, but then I don't know very much about the cameras and how they work, so I'm probably missing something

At least here's a thread where nobody's lost focus!

Tuesday: The best I could come up with is "point at" your camera to an object in conjunction with "parent" your camera to the object. but ths doesn't rescale in relation to other objects in the scene - merely changes their position relative to the object of interest. (works fine for tracking the object though.) You might try the above method with all of the cameras, as the attibutes of the various cameras are different and you might find one that works.(doubt it though.) Bobasaur: focus, now that's another pet pieve in poser.

Thank you bikermouse, I will try that and see if I can't get something that works, I didn't think of try the different cameras, good idea.

Alex: You might also check out DAZ. Apparently they have something called a zoom tool. Don't know what it is, or whether or not you need propack to use it, but the name sounds encouraging. If you do have propack, you might also check out Python scripting (bushi has a good site for Python scripting using propack).

Some of the scripts around look really helpful, but I don't have pro-pack.

roll on Poser 5!

Thanks
Alex

Hello there, couldnt resist answering- came across this subject. Scaling the camera doesnt work- you must put in in the same relational space as your object- that is the only way. And that, of course, is only the beginning. Now I must ask your excuse for what may sound like a blurp, but is nevertheless the plain truth- and my interest in the problem put here made me write this program- and answer you. So bear with me please :-) The PCB ZOOM Tool - a program I wrote, and of which Im really proud, does this " relationally spacing" automatically, and thereafter, if you want it to do so, will stay with the object, wherever it goes, grows or shrinks, whatever pose it takes on. I wrote the program because I got entirely sick of having to waste hours looking for something in Poser, of painfully placing cameras only to loose them the instant anything moved or changed... ;-(( You need Propack for the program- but with SR3, I would never want to go back to the old Poser4. So: yes, what you ask is possible. Theres lots of info etc. on my site if you want to know more- entirely up to you. Enjoy rendering! Paul Christiaan
