Another stupid lab crop thing... and DOF sucks... Aw, heck. Not architecturally sound, but looks like extremely hard work. (*

Another one with sucky DOF. I had to take these under low light and I hate flash, so instead had the aperture wide open. I need advice on how to go about that low light problem on a meager fully manual set up. The slowest SS on my cam is 60 (next to B). :-P

I'm posting one of my fave pics to the gallery. The one above is a coconut's flower (sorry no scientific namens LOL). There are 3 frames in the roll that the lab dudes forgot (?) to process (the negs look fine to me though). I have to go back and have them print those. As always comments are welcome. (*

My jaw still drops everytime I see these. Just amazing work! As far as the DOF, the only thing I can think is to use a tripod so you can use the longer shutter speeds with the smaller apetures.

I am, therefore I create.......

Cool...I actually like the DOF, hey, but maybe I'm weird! I like the coconut with the waspy-things on it, but my favourite of these is the coconut flower... :-)>

LOL! I like the dof too! Love that first one & the coconut flower.

I agree about the DOF, gives these an extra 3D pop. However, on the DOF in low-light thing, it seems like you are kind of cornered by your equipment. You might try a faster film, and then you could stop down more, pick up some DOF...or maybe stop down and then push the film in processing, if your lab will do it. I don't shoot film and so I'm not sure how much you can push the different films.

@ Michelle -- I usually use a tripod for indoor shots, but on ocassions like this one it's a bit hard for me to lug around and set up a tripod. There were too many people milling around, and a tripod would just be an obstacle to them. @ Sue -- cornered seems to be the appropriate word. Most of the time I stop down. The lab isn't an option, they only do the run of the mill processing. They can't even do decent crops! Thanks for the comments on these. I was pretty surprised myself with the results. :-) (*

Yep, guys there are nuts. Bautiful images, but anybody who does things like this from food is nuts. And me too, I like that DOF. .n
