Subject: Poser 3... Free?

Gorodin ( ) posted Wed, 26 June 2002 at 12:22 PM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 5:58 AM

I have heard that Poser 3 was included as a gimme in a magazine a few months ago. Is this true? My friends 13 year old daughter is getting very interested in computer art, and I thought a free poser 3 would be a great intro for her. Is there any place where this might still be available?

PC Plus also gave it away, together with an offer to upgrade to P4 at about half price. There *may* have been a time limit on the offer, but I don't think one was mentioned. I'll attach the PC Plus weblink. John

The mighty Maya is being given away on MacAddict disks... Gosh! They are running like cowards instead of preserving their high-end niche. ;^) Carolly

I got the May PC Format just to get Maya (having already got Poser 3 from PC Plus). But the Maya you get is totally crippled - no saves whatsoever, which makes it pretty useless. I'd advise anyone going for a back issue to opt for the PC Plus version, which includes an uncrippled Cinema 4D, plus the half-price poser upgrade offer. John

The half price upgrade is even more valuable than the free Poser 3!

oh yeah I forgot about Maya being crippled, sorry guys :) Rob

Gorodin ( ) posted Thu, 27 June 2002 at 1:55 PM

It's not crippled... It's "Differently Abled"!

This Maya creates images you can save, but the watermark is incredibly intrusive. Supposedly, student can learn from this version and put an image or 3 in their portfolios, but an Art Director would be hard-pressed to see the model with all that text in the background! However, it is "free". Carolly

Yes, you're right - you can save, but you get the watermarking. Sorry. I just remembered trying it and deciding that it was too disabled (or 'differently abled', or 'graphically-challenged') to be any practical use. John
