Subject: 4.03 and Windows XP... What is up with this???

I am not even being allowed past the start up screen before XP shuts Poser down saying that it was trying to do something bad... What?!?!?! Is XP not useable with 4.03? Did I miss key documentation? Do I have to go back to 4.0? It was never a problem before... damn.

4.03 works fine on XP for me.

I have XP, Poser and ProPack. I did have a problem with it doing that in ProPAck and downdloaded the patch even though the version of ProPack I had was suppose to have it. Try downloading the patch anyway and running it. It may help.

I do have ProPack already installed. Should I reinstall over the old Poser and ProPack? What exactly did you do kayjay?

And why is it showing up as 4.2.160 in the about dialog? Did I get the wrong patch? Is there a patch after this for ProPack?

I used to get a warning about a bad .dll every time I opened up Poser. I had to hit okay twice before Poser started. I found the .dll and deleted it. Now it complains about a missing .dll and not being able to initialize the application. I hit okay 1 time and Poser loads without any problems. Don't know, don't care. It works. I didn't even have to sacrifice a live chicken this time around. btw: Poser Pro Pack is a more up-to-date version of Poser, so the 4.2.160 is okay. (I don't have Pro Pack installed right now so I don't know if that is the latest version or if there's another patch or two available.) Poser 4 is only at 4.03.

I had a problem with this once, but I was having lots of problems at the time. Does it say something about a valid image file? I finally had to reformat the whole bugger and have been error free ever since.

Had the same problem with Poser 4 on my new system with XP and 1 gig RAM. I was trying to use the 4.18 patch. It was pre-CL I think CL has done two patches, The first one only added the multiple copies check and erased all traces of MC to what 4.18 did. (I think) the last one has fixed things. Until this very latest patch, Poser had a limit on how much memory it would accept on a system. If the system had more, Poser would not load. After you get it up and running, change the attributes for the Poser.rsr to read only. Do the same for the blMilWom.rsr and/or any others you use frequently. (The geometry *.rsr files - the picture *.rsr don't matter. It keeps Poser from corrupting the files if it wants to be naughty.

OK. Live and Learn Dept: ProPack IS 4.03. The update numbered 4.2.166 is for non ProPack folks it seems because I re-installed Propack and It works fine. Here is an interesting note: When I had the patch installed it changed the opening screen to three different colored boxes, the ProPack changes this back to the three sepia colored boxes with the dancing figure. Ergo, I believe that the patch was trying to make Poser 4 forget it was Propacked! Anyway, I am back and working again. Thanks for the help.

On my XP machine ProPack with Service Release 3 installed reports itself as being Poser Pro Pack Enhanced v4.2.1.179 and lists both my P4 and PPP serial numbers. -- Mark

Get a software firewall and set it so Poser can't access the network.
