Subject: NEW THEME FOR THE JULY CHALLENGE

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 01 July 2002 at 4:38 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 12:38 PM

Here is the theme I have chosen for the July challenge, please read carefully : MIDNIGHT LIGHT BEAMS Your image should show a night scene showing a light beam coming from the moon or from a street lamp or from whatever may shine. This can be an interior scene, a landscape, its up to you. The light beam(s) must be entirely created in Vue dEsprit (not added or post produced in a paint program, thats too easy!). and don't forget, it must be a night scene. And here are the rules: - You only can submit one image. Thats why you should take your time to work on it. - All submitted images will be uploaded by me with just a number by side the image, without the name of the artist. Also the artist will stay anonymous until the votes are closed. I will then change all the numbers for the names of the creator of the image:-). This means that you cannot show your image somewhere else until the votes are closed, otherwise it cannot be accepted. I choose to do so to give an equal chance to all of you. - You have to send your submission to me by e-mail to: gebe@renderosity.com Your image must be 800x600 or smaller and not more then 190 kb big. Bigger images are not accepted. Your image must be in jpg format and zipped before you send it. - Challenge starts today, July 1 and will be closed on July 30, 3:00 a.m. NY time (9:00 a.m. Paris time). I hope you like this new way of the rules. Good luck to all and have fun. Guitta

A very good choice for the theme I think, since anybody will have a chance due to the variety of possibilities. Not so easy to find such a theme. To my opinion, these new rules are very interesting : - only one submission will probably increase the quality (if possible :=) ) of the images - anonymous for submitting; this means equal chances for all I suppose. Maybe, submitted in jpg then zipped will not reduce a lot the size (but it's a detail). Unfortunately, I have to make rapidly my picture since I go to holidays near july 15th. So go to work ! Conclusion : I like the new rules ! :=) Yves P.S. : Guitta, when will you give us further informations about the future contest (for September) ?

The Big September Contest and its rules will only be announced September 1. Guitta

Good idea! This keeps people like me from flooding the contest with too many pics. I like the idea of having only one chance. That makes it quite more interesting. Dont know if the anonymous option is that important, anyhow: if I see a pic and cant get my mouth closed its surely from gebe, hehe, I wont miss your heavy detailed perfect-like style in any of your pics... However: The new rules make the contest more interesting, good idea!

A difficult theme I think, a real challenge. And the new rules are good , 1 image each and no names. sounds surprising. ;) regards Maria

Good theme guitta.. Let's see what we come up with.. :)

audity ( ) posted Mon, 01 July 2002 at 8:56 AM

that's a nice challenge and the "equal chance" new rule is great. We can now play a new game : who did this image ? :) Eric

This sounds like a great theme and I really like the new rules. I know with multiple submissions I would do a quick one for an interesting idea I had, then concentrate on a good one. :)

Good luck to you all! :)

gebe ( ) posted Mon, 01 July 2002 at 10:37 AM

...But try not to submit all together on July 29 or 30. LOL! It takes time to create thumbnails, to write the html and to upload. If ever you're nice gals and guys, you can join to your sendings a ready thumbnail not bigger then 200 px width or high and not heavier then 15 KB. This is not an obligation, but if ever... would be nice. Thanks. smiley.gif Guitta

I like the new rules, and the theme is really cool.. time to get creative :)

scifiguy ( ) posted Mon, 01 July 2002 at 5:03 PM

I don't know that anonymous is necessary with this group...from what I've seen people don't really vote based on who did the pic. :) Still, its a cool idea. YL, zipping a jpg doesn't help its size, but mail systems sometimes mess up on jpgs and zips always show up as attachments so its better that way. Now where where those posts about light cones again...

"from what I've seen people don't really vote based on who did the pic. :)" I have seen exactly that:-). That's one of the reasons. But it can also be fun not to know the name. Let's try and see. :-)Guitta

Question: In this new contest, (I missed voting in the last contest) does that also mean that any signatures are forbidden on the images as well?

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 02 July 2002 at 3:44 AM

FOR SURE! If you have a signature on your image, it is not any more anonymous, I thought this was clear:-) Guitta

Just getting clarification in writing! :-)

I like some of the rules... #1 Anonymous is the way it should be so there is no chance for favoritism to play a part. #2 Zipping a jpeg does not do much so maybe get rid of this rule ;) Kudos Guitta!
