I don't think you need to worry about it. PCs have a real problem pretending they're Macs. I believe there are two free utilities for Mac users, one of them being Mac Converter that allows Mac owners to convert props and suchlike over to their formatting. Same with zip files. Stuffit Expander and a couple other utils can read and extract zip files without any problem. Any props and characters you create are automatically compatible with Mac simply because of things like Mac Converter. Just don't use 3ds format in any of your props as I was recently told Macs can't read 3ds though that's a brand new one on me. I thought they could. As for textures. Mac can read pretty much any format that Photoshop can read, though I believe Mac users prefer people to use jpg. Hope that helps.

Hi, I wouldn't have called it "PCs having a real problem pretending they're Macs" but since Questor mentioned it I agree that (at least) the conclusion has some truth... :-) Just kiddin... PC Poser files can indeed only be converted on a harddisk with the Mac file system, so don't worry - just release a normal set of files for the PC in a .zip archive. If you want to make your package Mac friendly, just keep this in mind: - keep the filenames to 31 characters maximum (e.g. 27+"."+3) - no ":" character in the filenames - no self-extracting .exe installers, just plain .zip files To my knowledge .3ds files typically import fine (and I imported a lot of them), although it could be possible that there are very new versions which are not supported (or behave different on Mac/PC). There *is* a problem with .3mf files, because Poser (both PC/Mac) only accepts very early format versions, and not the latest files. Just to make certain I am not misinterpreting: do I understand you to say that a packet containing the regular pp2 and rsr files, together with texture maps in jpg format would be usable? Or would the obj files themselves be what was required? And if my archive uses full path information (WinZip), would that go against what you mentioned regarding self-extracting installers? Just include all files needed for PC, the conversion will be done on Mac. You can create any path you like inside the .zip archive (as long as every single sub-directory name within won't exceed the 31 characters limit). Just don't use any "installer-maker" to create an executable .exe file that needs to be launched on a PC in order to extract.
There is really very little you need to do to make PC props usable on the Mac, thanks largely to MartinC's converter program. If you go over to the Macintosh forum (one of the "Topic" forums in the bar at the right), there is a box near the top of the page that has the words "Mac Compatibility FAQ"; that covers the few details that you might want to know. And then all your props are usable by the Mac community as well. - Jim
Thanks indeed to Martin! We Mac folks actually have an easier time of decoding and installing files where they should go. Anything where you'd need Objaction Mover on a PC, we can do through his MacConverter. Upon installation we can direct the files to our own Library categories or let the program set them up automatically. We can import .3ds, and .dxf directly into Poser, but sometimes have to tweak the scale. We can read and write any texture files which can be accessed in PhotoShop (png, tif, jpg, bmp, whatever). We can zip or unzip just fine. The only thing we can't do is run an .exe file. But even PC users should be wary of those! Thanks for thinking of us. :) Carolly

My apologies if this question has been asked recently, but can anyone tell me whether it is possible to convert my created prop files, currently PC only, to a format that is usable on a Macintosh system? And if so, how? Thanks very much. Peace, Morgan
