Subject: Software for designing figures?...

RAWOLF ( ) posted Sun, 07 July 2002 at 6:49 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 11:11 PM

Price-wise or otherwise any suggestions on what software i should get in order to be on my way to poser figure creation. ALso would this be the same software for making interiors/structures and such. (I think i rushed into the whole poser thing thinking it could all be done in such an affordable program..doh!)
PS
thanks (very much)to all who helped me on my last question. i'm havin' fun so far.

I prefer Rhino myself, I've tried ALOT of modelers and it's worked best for me, you can download a demo at their site, and the rhino forum here is very helpful, there are also links to alot of free/shareware modelers in the modeling forum give a few a try, and see what your comfortable with :)

All a matter of choice. I use Truespace but there are many others. I have links to several ranging from free to arm-and-a-leg on the links page on my site. Truespace is coming out with version 6 so there are deals to be had on earlier issues.

Carrara was origionally devekoped by Poser's former owners, and is now supported by eovia.com = )

When it comes to modelers, I'm on the same quest. So far, Universe 4 and Softimage have my interest. Can't say about LW cuz they don't have a demo. Both of those are spendy. Some of the folks here use Cinema. I use freeware modelers, but want to go with a commercial modeler in the future. Best advice, get all the demos and play. Find what works best for you.

For organic modelling SoftImage is probably the best, but hardly the cheapest or easiest to use. I have never used Lightwave so I dont know about that one, but if everyone is telling you its good, you can't deny its plausibility. I usually use 3ds Max for most of my modelling needs, with Clay Studio and its NURMS subdivisins making it almost as good as SoftImage for organic figures. A lot of people say Carrara was easy to use and good, but personally I hated the program. Everyone has their different styles I guess. Truespace and Lightwave seem to be what most of the figure creaters here use though, so judging by their results Id say they would be sound investments.

Carrara is a bit of development away from rivaling any major pro 3D application, but it's learning curve is a nice way to break into modelting. = )

I think it's a good idea to choose a program that many others also use. That way you can get help if needed.

Truespace is nice, we are using it to do a review and I like the software quite a bit. 3DS Max is of course a very powerful tool as well... and the version 5 update coming is looking really, really hot.

Any of the major modeling pacakges out there will do the job for you. so find and dl there demos and try them. Find the user interface that makes sence to you in its layout and workflow, doing that will cut your learning cuver inhalf. If you fight the interface becouse it dosent make sence to you will spend far to much time and energy just trying to figure out how to do a simple step rather than thinking about your creation. dl Exsplor have fun. then buy Later Vel hope this helps
