A while ago the head person at Amazon said here at Renderosity it was a mistake that they announced Poser 5 Book. Well the Poser 5 book is back at Amazon.com and it's on sale for pre-sale for Oct. for 30% off. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1584502290/qid=1026177618/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_3/102-4631090-2705713 I still sticking with Siggraph for release of P5

I heard October on another forum. Don't know how he knew, but fall seems to be the consensus...still...I'll be ready to plunk down $$$ if they have it at Siggraph this year...

[rant] Why not to buy any Shamms Mortier books: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1584500115.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1584502290.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1584502177.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Out of 9 books: 1 had no rating 3 got 1 star 1 got 1 1/2 stars 3 got 2 stars 1 got 3 stars I bought two of his books and feel incredibly ripped off for having wasted that much money. How does a no talent hack get published, let alone that many times?!? [/rant]

Do you expect to see 3d artists get ratings when folks are gobbling up OJ books and WTC stories? I have his Bryce 4 FX book and while it isn't Kitchen's Real World Bryce, it is definitely not a no talent hack. How do folks like that get published? They try and try again until they do.

California dreaming on such a Winter's day..... Might be wrong but, announcement at Siggraph with release date late Autumn, early Winter...

I got the impression that that ad was not removed. However, my husband pointed this out to me: What if the placing of the ad is not a mistake, regardless of whether Poser 5 comes out then or not? It could be a marketing ploy to get new customers because CL do not have to push sales at the 3D community because we are already sold on it. It could be a push to try and get new customers." Just a thought.

Hey, its always about selling snow to eskimos, right? No big deal, its in the works and the wise eskimo will wait until the snow is more technologically advanced. All things come in time.

ordered the bryce 4 book from barnes & Noble when it was listed with a publish date and everything..when it first came out ....it wasnt even published till at least 6 months after even though it was listed as available....so maybe the listing for poser5 book doesnt really mean anything.... why would someone sell anything for 30% off when they know the prospective buyers will pay full price?????

williamsheil ( ) posted Tue, 09 July 2002 at 12:10 PM

I thought it had been pretty much established in previous posts that the author didn't really have any connection (not even as a beta tester) with CL.

Currently all indications are that Poser 5 is not even in the beta testing stage, and Kupa's own most recent announcement states that there is still a lot of work to be done (read 6 months minimum for development of such complex software). Remember that at the end of the day more time means a better, more stable product.

The reintroduction of the book ad (if it ever was removed) is probably in response to Kupa's pre-announcement, and, for the publishers, is probably a means of generating interest and extra income through pre-orders.

I'm betting those lucky folks at the party a couple weeks ago who signed the non-disclosure agreement and got the demo from Kupa know considerably more about Poser 5 right now than Mortimer does! Saxon may be right, but I'm hoping for early autumn for the PC version, so that the Mac one beats Santa to my door!

You trust Amazon?? Only recently a book known to have been quashed for publication was available --not for pre-release, but for Sale at Amazon. Those of us who knew it was never going to be published, hastened to write reviews for it, which were also featured at Amazon for over a month until they caught on. Emily

woowww wowie; i am so glad i found another person that agreed; i complained for hours to my bro in law about shamms mortier i call him "the Sham" or "the Scam". i'm glad other people agree all his books are rips; they suck terribly. they are just a big waste of money. i'm sorry to admit i bought 4 books at the same time from amazon and opened up the CD in the back and because of that i cant sell the damn things for a buck. i'm stuck with firewood
