Subject: Importing Poser Figures into Bryce?

I was wondering if there was some way of exporting Poser 4 figures into Bryce 4 so that the textures on the figure will be applied already. The only way I have heard of texturing a figure in Bryce is to ungroup it and regroup the multi-zillion parts so that they can be given their correct textures again. There has to be a better way! (right?) Ackbar

Go to Peter Sharpe's web site: http://www.petersharpe.com/Tutorials.htm He has a tutorial for importing Poser textures into Bryce. There's also a bunch of other great Bryce tutorials. BTW: He mentions that if you have Bryce 3.1, you have to rotate the texture on the X axis. This is not the case for Bryce 4. Poser4 to Bryce4 is quite simple really. Just export your figure with the textures applied as an .obj and make sure you save it in the same folder as the textures. Then when you import it into Bryce and go to the materials editor, you'll see your texture. Now, all I need to learn is the transparencies and bumps in Bryce. Thanks for the links Crescent

I had problems before with importing a Superman. I had a texture for the base figure and he had two boots on and a cape. When I imported him, he had his texture, but his boots and cape had the same texture on them. I had just wanted them to be Red. How do I fix this?

I very rarely export my Poser figures into Bryce, mainly because transmaps don't work, but the couple of times I've done it, the textures just automatically applied themselves. I was totally surprised the first time it happened, becuase I know it didn't do that in Poser 3 and Bryce 3D. It's a new feature of P4 and B4. Just try it and see what happens. Melanie

The transmaps do work melanie S Not sure what the problem was with the superman but he should work okay and you might need to select the object and then apply the material in bryce. I typically get the stuff close in poser but don't really finish it in there but wait until it is in bryce. That wayI am not double materialing ... Just get the skin right in poser and then go to bryce to add clothes textures etc .. I always render in Bryce since he poser render engine is annoying and I like the haze and light effects that can happen in Bryce ... The tutorials I think should get the hair and other transmaps no problem if they are the one that I am thinking of but if anyone wants something answered message me ...Good luck

If you read my tutorial at: http://www.mindspring.com/~zonefive/ It will tell you everything you need to know. Trans maps and all! Spike P.S. The Bryce render engine is much better than the Poser render engine because it has ray tracing and so much control.

What do I do if the clothing file I want to use it a .pz3? Where would I get the texture? Ackbar

Select the figure and File: Export as Wavefront .obj file. You can always run it through the UV Mapper (available on the Fun Stuff area thanks to Steve Cox) to make a texture map and decorate it as you want.

Ghostofmacbeth, I exported a figure with James's man trans hair and it came out looking like a helmet. The transparency was absent. I thought I made sure that everything was selected when I exported, but I could have missed something. I'll try it again and see. Melanie

Check Spike's tutorial (listed above) for using Trans Maps in Bryce. They require a bit of handling.
